To start with, my wife doesn't care about cars. Never has. Since we have been together, she always had 1 car, drives it 5/10 years, gets new. I buy and sell, and she doesn't notice. Things are sold and 8-9 months later - she will ask "oh what happened to that white car." She is obvlivious to things with 4 wheels. If I wasn't in the picture, I am sure she would still have a Mazda323 hatchback rest of her life.
Just mentioning that to give you a background.
Her "stable" has been:
- LS600hL
- NC2 Miata PRHT GT
- LX570
- RC-F
She drives 4,000 miles a year.
This has been an interesting year. I have REALLY been trying to cull down the fleet, and have been very successful. I sold 5 cars and 3 motorcycles this year. Covid/Heloc/Hipsters have been great for my pocketbook. All sold on BAT for top dollar. I was not looking to add any to the personal fleet this year.
Due to bmw88rider who bought my Integra GS-R, I ended up with a Land Cruiser (FJ 60) - awaiting transport:
I am always a "fly and drive" guy, and I on purpose look for cars states away, across country, so I can do a fly and drive. Its my way of getting away, alone, away from family and responsibility and business and spend some time. However, due to Covid, I decided to have that FJ60 transported.
So everyday, I have been looking at pics of my upcoming FJ60 and wife says "I want to buy a project." I felt like Kris Jenner, realizing her husband is a woman. It was a shock. Of course I didn't discourage her, and we looked at some ads. Given she isn't a "car person," she liked a car visually, and "HAD TO HAVE" that particular one. In 2 hours we had the deal completed. Certified check sent, title fed ex to me.
Now, since we are not doing fly and drive, I couldnt get my transporter to pick it up till end of DEC. Seller doesn't want to hold that long.
So it will be a "drive and drive." But wife doesn't want to drive her car down (700 miles away in snowy climate - needing chains).
So my neighbor graciously is lending me his new $80,000 Diesel.
We leave tomorrow morning. Not sure if this will be a good or bad episode of wife getting into the hobby.... Just wanted to share. Will update pics next few days, as we get the vehicle.
