As I first got peak of car in person
Very cool!
I know the twin to that car. Owned by a doctor in his 70s bought new, really low miles. Sits in the garage next to his wife w124 wagon.
new Saga
Buying a car private party out of state, in CA, you have do VIN verify, and emission/smog. I am used to it, know the drill.
Take the car to my smog guy. Looks at it, "WOW can't believe stock, low miles..." All input into the computer. I will be on my way in 10 min
NO!!! This car..>WOW
He calls me over. I said what is the problem. Lots of EVO owners have a problem smogging due to the shiny OEM intercooler pipe. So I was ready for that. BUT He says your Federal emission sticker is not correct.
I said WHAT?!
He said, see it is supposed to say "TC" for turbo charge. Mitisubishi didn't tell the FED that car is factory turbo. I can't smog it. This is illegal. I go searching for - check my 2016 WRX - he is right, that shows TC, as does my 04 MSM Miata.
He wants me to get a letter from CORP to say car is turbo.
I tell him EVO 9 MR, is a 1 year only car. Very limited production. They are ALL factory turbo. He isn't having it.
So no emission testing, Car sitting in garage.
Slippery said:You really wanted this car. I would have told them thanks and gone on my way to find another one.
Yeah it came to that a bunch of times. I did feel following through - at the end it really worked out. I found something really mint, for significantly under market value. Middle of nowhere, crazy owner, weird schedule. But agree 100%, maybe I should have walked away earlier.

I literally have typed that to Javelin and a few more friends more than once.

My phone goes to DND after 8pm, as I work 4am (I work east coats/hong kong hours). However, if you call multiple times, it goes through. One of the MOST annoying was the midnight phone calls randomly. Especially given old people don't stay up that late.

I typed as fast I could. I am sure I missed a lot. But my head hurt. THis is the best I can do :)

I live close to one of the biggest MITSU dealers around. When I bought my 16 WRX Limited, they had bunch of the FE Edition Evo X and some other new ones. The X never did it for me (at that time).
I am not a big mitsu fan. I liked the old Eclipse GST or the Starion. The 3000 GT would always lose to all the comparo results .
I do love the Pajero in Dakar, but I skew more Land Cruiser
When I did the search, I talked to few EVO owners on this form. BMW88rider reiterated not to get the Evo X, thus again I didn't look at it.
Funny thing is Evo X is much cheaper than Evo 8/9. After talking to him, I can't legally drive the EVO4/5 etc here, so I wanted a USDM car.
EVO 9 MR being top of the heap or best of the Evo8/9 world - from what people had said, thus I narrowed to my search to the car. If I knew it was ONLY one model year and how hard it is to find a stock, mint car - I might not have gone further. Call me ignorant or lucky - but worked out.
I hate the graphite gray. Would have loved a white/red, but it is what it is.
Locally, MDK International has 2 EVO 9, one is modded to the hills $65,000, and other one is repainted $45,000.

Thank you! I do feel I have aged, and need to start taking up drinking!
In reply to mr2s2000elise :
I'm in Canada so importing an older generation evo is a possibility, however right hand drive insurance is so bananas is scares a lot of people away. That makes the domestic LHD evos quite pricy as you get to avoid the RHD yearly expense.... but they are all modded to heck and likely driven hard by kids
