Can we not talk about wasted money? I realized last night that my car collection could have looked like the following if i hadn't built this car:

1990 MX6 GT Turbo (Daily)
2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport (other daily)
2004 Mazdaspeed Miata (toy)
2004 Mazda RX8 (another toy)
2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder (another toy)
1992 Celica GT (race car)

Put it this way... i'm working on a huge google doc for this whole build, and i will also be putting together a build guide for a "budget" version that will only cost 50% of less of what i've got in this stupid thing, but will probably give 90% of the performance.

Good to see parts going on! I really like the purple as well! It really shows off all the trick suspension parts. Let me know when you are going to be wroking on it, I would be glad to come help out again.

This weekend! I get my new phone tonite, so i'll shoot you a text, ok?

Goal is to get this sucker on the ground and roll it out of the garage so i can do a little bit of straightening and get some of the stuff up into the loft.

You wouldn't happen to have a hydraulic spreader, would you? We might need to make a junkyard run, the passenger MX3 mount doesn't fit in the Escort mount bracket.

  1. Your car insurance bill would probably make vomit.

B. The constant enabling the goes on here is coming dangerously close to sinking my plans for owning a serious car by making me want to spend more money on a goddamn E36 M3box NA Miata.

III. None of those cars you listed would have fly-ass purple tubular control arms.

1) It already makes me vomit, probably because i'm getting screwed by Farmer's. $220/month.

B. money into a goddamn E36 M3box NA Miata = serious car! DO IT

III. Actually.... The Celica build does/will look like the Escort build. But on Horse Steroids since it's not really constrained to SCCA SM ruleset. So yes. Fly-ass tubular control arms are on the menu, measurements have already been taken. That said, i haven't ruled out a double wishbone conversion on that car taking cues from this monstrosity:

Feast your eyes on some Toyota Super Strut suspension.

I dont have a hydraulic spreader, but I have a friend that may. Ill ask him and see.

This weekend I am fairly booked up, but next weekend would be good. Shoot me a text and we can go over the logistics.

What mount are you looking for?

Holy E36 M3! $220 a month? Thats what I pay every 6 months and I am 21! However, I guess old Chryslers and Mitsubishis are not worth much.

Please rule out everything that isn't the double wishbone conversion.

The Miata, no matter how much fun it may be, will always be a pride parade float. If I stay on budget, I can buy an Esprit and have cash reserves for whenever it decides to bend me over.

Clearly, I suck at staying on topic; carry on.

I was once quoted at $1600/6 months for an MG. Just an MG.

I'm fairly certain my Insurance company is convinced that my not-paid-off Mazdaspeed Miata is a primary driver. So that's not helping things.

Oh man i'm slacking on some updates.

1) One of the rear control arms had a rod end seize in it, had to have a new one made. Waiting on that to come in.

2) Found, sandblasted, and painted an MX3 side mount bracket, so that's all good.

4) Made a thing.

5) Pimpy delrin crossmember bushings!

6) Big bag of -6AN XRP fittings!

Oh, and the gauges thread? I ended up going with the RacePak IQ3.

Why? BECAUSE RACE CAR.

You don't need added complexity, you just need to get this thing running .

I'm kinda in the same boat as you now regarding gauges. The tach in my Miata won't work with the MS I have and the MSM coils. I may just make/buy a sequential shift light. For now I'll just shift when I hit the limiter.

Well, the IQ3 was really "the easy button." Now i don't have to worry about a tach or the Dakota Digital thing. Don't have to worry about wideband display, any of the other gauges, etc etc etc...

This just plugs into the Haltech, and at the end of the day, is only a couple hundred more, for a much cleaner and more capable install.

Oh, and i'm not doing the install anyways, so it saves me installing a bunch of gauges.

So obviously i'm way behind schedule in general, but this car seriously sucks.

Light at the end of the tunnel has been glimpsed, though. I need to catch up many updates and fix some pictures. I'll try to get to it today. There's been some interesting developments that will eventually culminate in over 300whp still n/a and an RPM limit that will let me stretch my 4.38 final drive MX3 trans to about 80mph in 2nd.

For now... i leave you this. (No, that's not even coming CLOSE to clearing the hood.)

I think there's a lot of power to be had in these motors if they're built logically... So you should probably think about that.

Oh don't worry.... there's no way those things are clearing the hood. Hell, the front fuel rail doesn't clear the hood.
