If you aren't using those Hoosier gravels I know a lot of people who would.

This thing looks nuts and I'm very interested in hearing what it's like to drive.

What's the story on the rally tires? Did someone rallyX it at some point?

Those are ojannen's.  He used them as rollers since they are taller at 23 inches.  They didn't come with the car.  Tony-san is sad sitting on 14 inch Miata wheels with way age dated tires.

K20 not that I'm a Honda expert at all but when trying to find the oil dipstick I only found the slide in the firewall after looking up Honda K engine dipstick location.  All the pictures lined up with a K engine.

This evening I'm trying to figure out street wheels/tires.  I was about to say "stock" but "as built" it had 20 inch tires front and 23 inch tall tires rear.  My thought is it needs to be raised some for street anyway so let's go 23 inch tall front and 26 rear.  So I started looking at wheels available in 15 inch and 17 inch.  Looks like Konig wheels met that so I'm trying to figure out which ones.  What I'm seeing is the 17s aren't the correct offset.

I've added to my collection of 13 inch 4x100 wheels. This should give me plenty of options.

Hey Stampie,

Is this thing going to make an appearance at the Challenge this year or not ?  Time is running short.

I haven't decided.  I've started getting it ready for the Classic Motorsports Amelia Island Kickoff on Friday.  I'll be at the Challenge just not sure if I'll enter a car or not.

Thanks.

Today was the Classic Motorsports Amelia Island Kickoff.  Lil Stampie, Lil Stampie friend, and I loaded up and headed to Fernandina.  After a stop at Moon River for pizza we headed to the show.

Everyone loves stickers. I spent some time deciding where it would look good. Took time to think about instructions saying "Place on driver's lower corner of the windshield."  Made me wish I was taking a RHD car.

When we got to the entrance Tom came up and said to park next to the Ferrari.  Thought to myself that's not normal for me and my kind but ok.

It was a really cool show. I got to hang with some GRMers and meet a lot of people.  Tony got some attention and lots of questions about power and weight. I think we'll do this again. We talked about bringing Suprang next year.

Forgot to add this yesterday.  One of the guys that came up and was talking to me asked me if I had ever heard of a car called Blue Max.  I said that I hadn't and he said it was a lot like Tony but based off a Mini.  Then he said it was built by a guy named Harold Knoble.  I was like Harold built this car.  He said he remembered Harold selling Blue Max to build another car which I assume is Tony.  I searched a little last night and all I found was this picture.

I found it on pinterest here.

K20 or B20??

Let me first say that I'm a DA.  Lil Stampie and I were going over the car because things mentioned below and I noticed a distribitor for the first time.  WTF K engines are coil on plug.

Then we looked at the intake after verifying that the valve covers looked like B series.

That's B series GSR VTec intake and head.

Finally I compared the webbing/bolt holes on the block to pictures on Ebay of a B series and yep they are the same.

So how did I become a DA and think K20?  I assumed.  I went back to the build sheet to figure out where I went wrong and

2 Liter Honda CRV Block

My DA assumed that was a K20 not knowing that the first gen CRV came with a B20.  Not the first time I've been a DA nor will it be the last time.  I think it's more of a consistent DA but consistency wins in the end.  I think.  I don't know.  I'll update later what I did today.

I found a few more pictures of blue max when I searched a few years ago.

This is one of the last years it was in serious competition.  You can see how much bigger the wheels got.  Harold won a championship with the cars in the 80s.  It finished in 2nd a few times with Tom Austin driving before he gave up on fwd and built the first about 15 years ago.  I believe the car is still around.  I talked to the Austin's when I was looking for info on the Fiat.

The guy I was talking to said he thought Tom bought Blue Max but wasn't sure if he still owned it.

Today I was working on getting Tony started.  But you went to the show Saturday you say, what happened?  Well it didn't run when I was getting it ready last week.  On Thursday I tried starting it and it would crank but nothing else.  I grabbed a new battery and same thing.  I did notice the voltmeter showing a large voltage drop while cranking but it was reading low just at rest.  Decided we'd do the show with human power.  It actually went pretty well.

I headed to the junkyard today with plans of grabbing an LS battery/starter cable.  The third GMT800 and the first one with a good cable also had an ampifier power cable sitting there with a fuse block attached.  Grabbed that instead.

They charged me $7.76 for 8 feet of speaker wire.  It was actually 23 feet long so a win for me.

First I used a short piece to replace the ground.  Here's the before.

Here's the after.

That didn't fix it but it was more of I knew it needed to be done better and that wire fit without me having to crimp anything.  Someone left their crimpers and connectors in Gainesville.  We won't name names.  After that I grabbed the VOM and started checking 12.5 volts at the battery and at the cut off switch at the back. When cranking it drops to mid 9s.  My theory was the ECU wouldn't turn on at that low of a voltage.  Next plans are replacing the wire back to the switch and maybe the starter lead.

Then as I was cooking dinner tonight I thought back to when we got it running.  That day we tried starting it off the battery but nothing.  Thinking the battery was tired I hooked up the Suburban with jumper cables.  It hit me, That would have brought the voltage up to the Suburban's alternator voltage so even with a 3 volt drop it would have been high enough for the ECU to power up.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You now have good ground to the frame.  As part of your diagnostics, I would suggest verifying you have a known good ground from the frame to the engine.  The starter is going to pull some current while cranking.

I have had this exact issue with cutoff switches.  They will test fine, but under load will provide enough resistance to cause your exact issue.

Just eliminate the kill switch for testing.  If it starts fine, it's just a tired kill switch.
