picked up a volvo 240 recently in trade for my mk2 gti. I got tired of working on the volkswagen, and hopefully (and has been so far) it will be more reliable than my gti. It has a motor swap from a 700 series (b230ft) with the stock turbo so far. I plan to just make it my dd and hpde toy, but the main focus is a fun daily right now.
next was to weld on a m12 threaded rod so I could use my custom knob I had made for my gti
new shocks in the rear
coilovers up front
decided to smoke my head lights
put in camber plates
and bought a newer turbo from a later model volvo because my current little hair dryer is dying, and burns oil on deceleration
and of course my grm sticker
I like where this is going... Looks like you painted the wheels too.

Forgot to mention that too. The wheels looked crappy before so I sand blasted them and spray bombed them for the time being until I can afford new wheels. These things are tiny 6" wide wheels when people are fitting 9's and 10's with minor modifications.
Also I have cobra imola seats and takata harnesses from my gti. The seat bases need to be modified a little and the harness bar needs some width added to it to make it work. But I will only be putting those in and out for track events as dd'ing with buckets sucks.
Picture of old gti for good measure, yes those are webers, I do miss it :(
I like the GTI wheels, they'd look sweet on the Swedish Bread Box! What color is that you painted them?

I loved the gti wheels too, Im a sucker for concave and gold wheels. If the volvo bolt pattern (5x108) wasnt such an awkward bolt pattern I probably would have new wheels by now. I just found some "bronze metallic" at lowes and put on 4 coats and 4 coats of clear. So far so good, holds up the the dustiest pads Ive ever used also.
What kind of wheels are those on the GTi?
That's a cool little Volvo. But It also looks like you gave up a badass little GTI
With the boost cranked up the Volvo should be a fun little brick
always liked the 240's ... what compressor does the new turbo have (i've got a 16t in my wagon and a 13h (i think it's H lol) in for my b230 s10)... the flat flange exhaust housing is a nice upgrade vs the conical... just not a bolt in option....
anyway good looking car man
oh and being that you've got a manual gearbox once you get an exhaust built for the thing look into a cam... volvo had A LOT of options... I got a B cam for $20... but it's a very mild upgrade (i've got an automatic so can't go to wild)
I'm assuming you moved the overdrive switch somewhere else to fit the new shift knob. If it is a five-speed, do yourself a favor and change it back to a four speed w/ overdrive, as the five-speeds are not nearly as bulleproof, and (except for the M90) not as tolerant of high torque numbers.
The 242GT in my avatar had a Euro-spec B23E motor with "K" cam, and would easily smoke the tires off the line. I have heard of people running K cams in turbos with some good effect -- the K is a high-lift cam, the only real downside being you have to keep an eye on the valves and adjust them more often.
And yes, 240s are fun. More fun than a car shaped like that should be. Plug in a Dana 35-compatible LSD and embarrass the local drifters.
Re wheels: You probably already know this, but just in case: the bolt circle on all Volvos with the exception of S40s and early 850s is the same, but RWD offset (except late 960s) is near to zero. You can run good wheels like T-5s and such, but you'll need good spacers. Or if you are lucky you can get some mean looking factory wheels. Case in point: the 16"x7" Volvo Galaxys I had on my 740TI+:

Yeah its hard finding volvo wheels for sale. More than likely I will end up with adapters and 5x120 wheels. But I dont have that much money (part time high school kid). Its a m47 5 speed, Ive heard they arent the strongest and if I had the money, trust me, a T5 would be in there in a heartbeat.
I just swapped in the 15g turbo from a 94 850. It originally had the flat flange which is a lot bigger than the conical flange, but Id have to reweld my exhaust for that flange and I found a conical flange at the junkyard which I swapped on the compressor so it would bolt right up to my downpipe.
Next on my list is a cam for sure. I really do like the K cam. I had a really high lift cam on my gti (both in 8v stage and 16v stage) and hate not hearing a lumpy cam in front of me. But I told myself Im not touching the engine on this thing because it runs so well and I built my gti engine up from the ground with the webers and wired it myself and could never get it running right. So if I do go the cam route I will for sure be paying someone to do it.
Wheels on the GTI were rota offroad grid 16x8et10

So my father signed me up for CMP on Oct 13-14th for my 18th birthday and informed me I will be driving the volvo and not his m coupe since he will be driving that the same weekend also (wish I had a two car trailer). So that means its time to get her track ready. Going through checking stuff, new pads and rotors.
I really want to put my cobra imola seats in because I said to myself I could not track another car without a bucket style seat. You learn so much more about your car when you are 100% planted and not scrambling around. I have to get the seat bases widened on the mounting points (need to be TIG welded) and I will possible have to lengthen my harness bar to make that work.

Well I thought I was getting some 5x108 gotti j55c's. The seller has them advertized as 5x108 (he never had them mounted on anything) so I bought them, and they ended up being 5x4.5". I really like the wheels, and might end up running adapters because the offset is enough to play with.

Neat. That's a clean looking 240. I always wanted to take one of our old GL Volvos and turn it into a Q ship.
A guy my father goes to for maintenance in Honolulu is building a top speed car for Bonneville. It's a heavily modifies 242. Runs on methanol, build 2.2 (I think that is the size) engine with a gigantic turbo, lots of other goodies.
I wonder if he has posted pics of that thing on the net. I don't really frequent Volvo boards, but it is impressive.
Ah, a quick search and here it is.

that build is absolutely insane!^
nothing much has been happening. Ive been working on these gottis slowly but surely and now have adapters for them, and will use the stock virgos as track wheels
That's going to look even sharper with those new wheels. Very nice ride.

Its better than before, but still leaves me craving a bigger turbo. Boost is addicting, I didnt believe it at first but its true. Im running ~15psi, its pretty quick but I dont think I'll be happy until traction is questionable when it spools.
Next on the list before turbo upgrades is a t5 transmission swap, the m47 on this thing is terrible and slow shifting. Its a big project and about a $1000 ordeal.
Very nice indeed. Can't wait to see those wheels on the car.
ill be at CMP with tarheel the same weekend. just spectating though, and participating in some shakedown on the parade laps with my ACR.
where in NC are you? you may be local to me, im over in albemarle.

Boost is like crack for sure, before you know it you can easily end up with a habit that will cost you tens of thousands of dollars in the end! lol
I'd love to swap my 240 with a 1jz or 2jz, but I am too wrapped up in another project right now. Looking forward to updates!
