Seems fairly priced. It was in a front end accident at some point but it seems the rod bearings have been addressed. Basing it off the ad it seems the seller is being transparent.
Looks decent. Wondering if I'll be kicking myself 5 years down the road when E60 M5s go stratospheric in price. Hard to beat a 6 speed/V10 combo.
Had a chance to buy a friend's well maintained E39 M5 for $8K a few years back. Chose to be fiscally responsible instead. Still kicking myself.
Blasphemy, However it may be my favorite BMW engine sound. I would never touch one with a smg but a big yes on a 6 speed.
This one looks like a scam. Check out the pictures in the BaT auction, it looks like they just swiped them for the craigslist ad:

So, normally, I'd make some comment about maybe the BaT buyer is deciding to move on, after a year-ish. But, I don't see someone buying one of these for $26, and then turning around and trying to dump it for $12k. So, I reckon your take is probably correct.
Bummer.
There's another one for $17k with 150+kmi, black on black... which further reinforces that this is probably a scam of some sort, since the price is lower than market.
perhaps they're on the their way back up already?
There's plenty of reasons not to get one. The big one is you will never see double digit MPG. Sure they're capable of it, but I can't keep my foot off that loud pedal, and I suspect you will have similar trouble.
I love these cars but I'm not keen on the headlights.
I know that I should not even consider the V10 cars. but I keep hearing the Siren Song of those twin-turbo BMWs, especially when a tune will get them to 400 hp for the 335/535 and $500 for the 550; fortunately, my left-brain kicks in drags me back to reality. :-D
This one is really tempting, though:
In reply to dettonator20 :
My former general manager had a 550i, pretty sure it was a twin turbo. Very nice car, fortunately he had a good warranty on it. It had required quite a bit of warranty repairs including i think it was at least 3 "engine out" services and i think it had 70-80k miles at most. He took care of it too, did not abuse it.
my favorite was he kept getting a battery light. He had me swap the battery, light was still on. It had to go to the dealership so they could clear the battery light.
