Porsche 944 that needs work but runs, and seller is offering compression test. $1500

Clutch job on these is a nightmare. Might be hydraulics but these (stock) have a rubber-centered disk that gives up the ghost on occasion. If this has any desirable options, it might be a decent buy. I'd need to see the option sticker to say definitively

Agreed. Was thinking if compression test is good and runs well, could be a good donor car, then just part everything else out.

I am just a few miles from that car and saw it pop up on FB. I really don't have time for a project, but I always loved the idea of a 944. This one looks like it'll take a lot though...

Same. Not too far away for me as well, great price but more of a project than I can take on.

Not a complete nightmare. Extra steps sure, but I was able to knock out mine in a weekend.

Caveat, I did mine with the car on jackstands in a gravel driveway. Not ideal in many ways. Plus my clutch-changing experience up until then was on SUVs with tons of room underneath.
Definitely doable but certainly harder than many rwd cars without a transaxle. Like you said, a few extra steps and your working window is somewhat limited by the torque tube bellhousing

If both brakes and clutch are inop then it could be hydraulic failures, not necessarily a mechanical issue that would require the transaxle to come out. Not too terrible of a job to replace all the master and slave cylinders (did it last year on my 924s).
