SOLD SOLD SOLD!!!

My fleet has grown to the point where I'm looking to free up some space and I'm having trouble driving/riding them all enough to keep fluids circulating and batteries topped off. I want to find my beloved 1992 Suzuki Bandit 400 a new home. I fantasized about these bikes since they were new when I was in high school. I bought this one as a 1991 bike a couple years ago in 'mild custom, mild road-rash' state and brought it back as close to stock as I could. I sourced a non-scuffed 1992 frame, hence the VIN and paperwork say 1992, but the engine/running gear are 1991. I think the '91 bikes had slightly more rowdy cams and a bit more power. The red paints between 1991 and 1992/1993 are really close, but not the same...ask me about how I discovered that one! indecision I've also amassed a fair number of extra parts and got started on an engine rebuild, as well as laying plans (and acquiring parts) for a suspension/brake upgrade. It photographs a little better than it shows in person, but it is a nice, fairly tidy, reasonably-well sorted bike. At this point I have been riding it regularly, and thinking of a few more tweaks to bring it closer to perfect. 14,000 rpm redline! smiley Suzuki claimed 59hp, and I think the weight is in the ballpark of 420 pounds. One of the few Japanese bubble-economy home-market bikes that made it stateside. The stock seat height is really low and should work even for those of smaller stature. Here's the overview, and I can provide more pics/details for those interested:

-23,000 miles, battery new this week, tires in good shape, carbs rebuilt last summer  on JDM 33mm bodies (vs. US 32mm) with new fuel-resistant seals and o-rings throughout, as well as new jets, ridden periodically through the winter this year to keep her running well.

-Some minor small scratches here and there, most notably on the tail section. NOS mirrors, headlight bucket/trim, and other small parts were sourced and installed by me to undo the previous owner's 'upgrades.'  frown I had the wheels powdercoated bronze metallic. Tank replaced with the nicest one I could find-great paint and no rust inside!

-Hoping to sell the bike as a package with ~50-miles since rebuilt cylinder head (complete) and disassembled complete bottom end with new bearings, hone, piston rings, and assorted gaskets, etc. At least two (maybe three?) racks worth of spare carb parts. Spare bodywork, spare dented but non-rusty tank, spare exhaust, spare airbox, spare wiring harness, spare switchgear, and more. Recently powder-coated spare battery box. Spare saddle, extra footpeg brackets, kickstand and other miscellaneous small parts. I have some brand-new consumables like oil filters, rubber parts, etc that would be included as well. I think there may be more, I just need to complete an inventory.

-I also have an ultra-ultra-rare Suzuki optional quarter fairing and solo cowl, color matched, but in rough shape. The fairing needs some fiberglass work and they both need paint. At the moment I'm looking to include them as-is. As spring wears on, or if the buyer requires, I may start the bodywork as I find time. I have some custom-mixed touch-up paint I will include with the bike.

-These bikes are known for the little screamer of an inline four and for retro-standard styling before others like the Ducati monster, but weren't graced with top-shelf suspension and brakes. Suspension/brake upgrade parts I've sourced, most of them bought used and might need going through before install: RF900 alloy rear swingarm, linkage, and rear shock, and well as a GSX-R1100 alloy rear swinger and remote-reservoir rear shock. Both are should bolt-on at the frame end, and offer a more sporting spring rate/damping. I think the GSXR is slightly longer, and planned to do some more careful measuring to determine the best fit. I sourced an upside-down fork with radial brake mounts from a ZX-6 (636) which I chose because it offers a total length within a few mm of the stock forks (unlike the way-to-short GSX-R750 some folks try to install) and a nice sporty stiffer spring rate to match the rear. I also sourced a JDM RGV250 triple tree, which has the correct offset to match the stock Bandit 400 geometry, and is only 5mm narrower than the stock Kawasaki triple clamp width. The RGV triples also offer the correct clamp diameters top and bottom, and should accept the stock Bandit ignition switch. I will also include some JDM Goose 350 headlight brackets I imported...they should fit the ZX-636 forks and the stock Bandit headlight and clocks should bolt right up. I have R1 calipers, lines, and master to complete the parts collected to date for the front. The fork and brakes likely need going through, and wheels or wheel bearings, rotors, and axle spacers still need to be sorted, but my parts get you a good portion of the way there.

Clean Oregon title and Oregon tags good until 2020. Asking $2500 for the entire package. The bike and parts are located in Portland, OR, about 2 minutes off I-5 near PIR. I'm willing to crate spare parts and meet your shipping company if needed. I'm also willing to meet your local uncle/friend/helpful GRMer for an inspection if you aren't in the area to check it out in person.

I'm advertising early to try and find an enthusiast interested in the entire package, so I am not really motivated to part out at this point. I need more projects like I need a hole in the head, but would entertain trade/part trade for: badass/rare Toyota AE86/4A-G parts, Husqvarna 701/KTM 690 parts, fabrication tools, or something Italian (?) two wheels or four.

I am simply commenting to say "sweet". I am in no position to buy, but hope this goes to a good home.

In reply to wheelsmithy :

Thanks! I'm hoping it goes to a good home as well. FWIW, I'm also open to offers on just the bike if anyone is interested but doesn't want all the extras.

Thanks guys. I have a really solid nibble from a guy in the Bay area...he is ready to drive up here and pick up everything for asking price! smiley Consider it sale pending, and I will update once the deal is done, or if the bike comes back on the market.

ae,

I was wondering if you still had any of the leftover carb parts from this project.  I am trying to resurrect a B400 as well.  Let me know, thanks

Sorry Aaron, but I sold everything off as a lot back in March. I found parts like carb bodies, linkages, and float bowl to be quite hard to track down, but small parts interchange with a lot of other small Suzukis also running Mikuni BSTs, like some of the Katanas, GSs, DRs, etc. I ended up buying a couple used racks of Bandit specific carb racks off Yahoo Auctions Japan by searching for the "GK75A" code the Japanese use for the bike. Then I sourced new jet/rebuild kits in the States. Good luck with your search!
