SOLD on Craigslist

Hello,

I'm finally parting ways with my baby after 13 years.  I've been a longtime lurker on these forums and I thought there might be some interest here. This 1997 Honda Civic EX was my first car, purchased by my father in 2006.  I've daily driven the car since then and its never let me down. The vehicle currently has a bit under 167K miles and the VIN # is 2HGEJ8543VH561147.  Clean Colorado title in my name.  The vehicle is located in the southern suburbs of Denver, CO. SOLD

Some background:

The 6th generation Civic has a double wishbone suspension and the EX model has the D16Y8 motor, which features SOHC VTEC and put out 127 HP when new.  Its not an SI by any means, but paired with the 5 speed manual transmission I've never felt like the vehicle was underpowered. Give it enough revs and you can pass people going up I-70.

Summary of vehicle condition:

The interior is in great shape for the age.  I'm a bit of a neat freak and the interior has always been cared for.  The fabric on the drivers sun visor and sunroof shade are torn.  The seam on the drivers front seat bolster is starting a separate a bit.  I tried to capture that in one of the pictures. A/C works, radio works. CD player has been replaced with an aux input so you can plug in your phone and listen to music.

The exterior has no major damage, but the Colorado sun has definitively won the battle against the 90's Honda clear coat.  From a distance the car still looks great, but up close you can see the clear coat peeling.  I tried to capture this in the pictures. There are a few dents/rock chips and the trunk/rear bumper has some pretty deep scratches from a trunk mounted bicycle rack.  I installed a 1-1/4" hitch about 8 years ago and have used that since for hauling bikes.

As far a mechanicals go, the car starts up every time and runs/drives fine.  The CV boots on both driver and passenger side are torn and will need replacing.  I can sense a bit of vibration under acceleration which is usually a sign of inner CV joints going bad, but they haven't started clicking yet. It might be a good opportunity to refresh the suspension while the axles are out.

The Civic is currently riding on its winter tires (General Altimax Arctic), which have adequate tread.  This car is a beast in the snow with these tires. I will also include a set of all-seasons (Michelin X-Radial) on separate steel wheels (with the stock hubcaps), but they are pretty worn down. You might be able get one more summer out of the all-seasons.

Recent notable maintenance/repairs:

  • Oil/filter change at 166K miles.  I'm pretty strict about changing every 3,000 miles so I would recommend changing again at 169K. The car seems happy with Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic and Honda filters.
  • Fixed small leak from upper coolant return port, replaced upper radiator hose - 2019
  • Replaced blower motor for HVAC system - 2018
  • New front brake rotors/pads - 2018
  • Replaced oil pan gasket  - 2018
  • New front sway bar bushings  - 2018
  • Tranny fluid change - 2016
  • Timing belt/water pump were changed a little bit before 108K miles (2013, have records) and will be due for replacement again at 200K.

Thanks,

Mike

That would make a great Gastropod. I really don't need to pick up another car in Colorado this year though. Dangit.
