Maybe a long-shot, but have a 2001 740i with sport package that I'd always wanted, but it's too far down the project list and I hate to see it sit any longer.
I paid $3500 (which was probably too much), and ideally would like to get $3500 out of it, BUT, it will include $1,000 worth of parts, new in box from FCP Euro: Coils, oil change ("fill" at this point, it's probably all leaked out), timing chain tensioner, fuel filter, and probably something else I'm forgetting.
It leaks oil like it's going out of style, and it has a clatter I've attributed to timing chain/tensioner as well as needing some other TLC. Only rust I see is some bubbling on driver's door bottom .
Located Eastern Shore of VA. Will get some pics next day or two. If price is too high...sadly I think I'm inclined to continue to let it acclimate in the driveway. Only wiggle room I'd have is keeping some of the FCP parts to feed other German projects.
ooh, shorty sporty is the E38 of my dreams. unfortunately it's gonna stay in my dreams because my request for 30-hour days hasn't been approved by the powers that be.
if you really want to sell it, i suggest you post some pix and tell us the mileage.
does the box of spares also include chain guides? or just the tensioner? my M62 experience says when the chain makes noise, the guides can be found in the bottom of the oil pan. :-(
i loved my 740iL and keep threatening to get another E38 someday.

Can't find an order confirmation including guides, so going to say that I either sourced them elsewhere, or I didn't buy them yet (this was a Jan '22 project that got pushed down the list right after I bought some of the parts, but never got it on the lift/in the shop)...and pics and mileage, I know, I know...but I was in a meeting that I had no role in, but was required to attend, so the mind drifts to what can I buy, and therefore what do I need to sell to buy this, etc. etc. and here we are.
If I can find a pic on my phone, I'll post it, otherwise this afternoon, be ready for photos of an e38 shoehorned between a gantry hoist and an inoperable kei van.
Not a current shot, but not much has changed.
is it a runner still? How bad a leak? any interior pics, I had a long wheel base silver also and miss it.
There was a white sporty shorty I found on a bike ride down a different path than I normally ride. It was sitting in a driveway, no plate, last inspection in the window from 4 years ago, "For Sale" written in glass marker on the side window faded indicating it was a while back. Rode by it for three months before I called the number. Twice two weeks apart. They never did respond. I was disappointed and relieved all at the same time.
GLWS, neat car
Oh man I love me some silver E38 on M Parallels...

I'll get interior pics tomorrow, put a charger on the battery, get mileage and if I can find suitable oil, can crank it up. As I recall, seats are reasonable, headliner sags and cluster had the standard lack of clarity (my mom had a well loved E38 at one point and called to ask me what her "Oclant level" was because her dash said it was low...damned dead pixels and a limited mechanical vocabulary got her!).
It leaks pretty bad. I've not put on lift to see if source is obvious (didn't have lift when this initially came home) but if anyone wants to come check it out, we can move whatever other German leaker is currently on the lift and put this on there together.
