Back in 2010 I went on a search for a fun wagon with a manual transmission. I ended up with this Volvo. The car was originally owned by an enthusiast who optioned it as a gearhead would: manual transmission, big turbo and sunroof delete. The car is comfortable, reasonably quick, fun to drive, supremely comfortable, incredibly practical... It's exactly why the sporty wagon is the cliche enthusiast's vehicle.
It has served me extremely well over the years, but I've transitioned from living in one place and having easy access to a garage and tools to being a road warrior in places where it isn't easy to work on the car or even have it worked on. At nearly 260,000 miles, it's time to pass the car on to someone who can do their own work or take it to a specialist.
The Bad:
The air conditioning does not work.
The body has minor damage on the driver's side rear quarter panel and some scratches on the passenger front quarter panel as well as small dings along the sides.
It will need an alignment, tires and front strut mounts in the near future.
The interior and exterior would benefit from a good detailing.
The Good:
I'm only asking $2500.
The car is extremely comfortable, even over long distances. Between the huge rear cargo area and roof rack, the car is very capable of hauling lots of stuff. I've gotten 21-31mpg on different tanks of fuel, but usually average 26-27mpg.
Despite the miles, the engine has great compression and shows every sign of lasting for a long, long time.
The stock sound system is very good.
The heated leather seats work as they should. The memory settings in the driver's seat are very handy. Just get in the car and push your number and the seat and mirrors go to exactly where you want them to.
