Selling my Mom's 2002 Volkswagen TDI.

The Good:

  • Leather
  • Wagon
  • Pretty sure it has a rocket chip (had a rocketchip sticker on the back window when we bought it and it's FAST compared my 2000 and my sisters 2003)
  • Rust free
  • Tires are decent
  • New fans and master cylinder

The Bad:

  • Bracket that holds the idler pulley is broken so the car does not drive
  • Needs a new headliner
  • Clearcoat failure on the roof and hood
  • Timing belt due in 20k
  • Glovebox failure

We're asking $1500. Give me a call at 561-818-0827 if interested and I'll do my best to facilitate the sale. Car is located in Jupiter Florida.

Is the idler bracket something that a replacement can be bolted on or is it not that simple?

Is this car old enough that it isn't one of those too complicated for an owner to work on?

It's bolted on but it's not that simple. It requires the AC compressor (lines can stay hooked up), alternator, powersteering etc to be removed as they are all on the same bracket. I've seen the bracket for $60, the real $$ is the labor to do all of this. I was considering doing the work myself because the payback would be tremendous but TDI owners are real finicky about who does the timing belt so I figured it may be better to let the next guy deal with it so they are comfortable with the timing belt. The good news is with all that stuff off this is the perfect time to do the timing belt since it's going to be due soon anyway.

It's definitely DIY wrenchable. I did all my own work on my 2000 Jetta and it wasn't so bad. The good news is TDIclub.com and the other diesel websites are a great resource that have writeups for everything. The bad news is it's a VW so they like to make things a little more complicated than they need to be.

Yeah good deal, do the timing belt and take care of the trans and that car should go and go (once you deal with the pulley)

Let me know Grover, I took down the ad on other sites because my parents are out of town on vacation. Once they are back I want this to go!

If you need to see the car I could drive over
