Sadly need to let this go as I no longer have the time or space to work on it.

2003 Saab 9-5 ARC Estate

3.0L V6 Turbo, 5-speed auto, 113,000 miles

Super rare front ventilated/heated seats and heated rear seats in excellent condition (no rips, fading, or serious wear). Everything works except for a sticky drivers power side-view mirror. Has a full-size spare, original tool kit, and both original keys. The car starts, stops, and drives and I have the clean title.

The Issues:

  • Tie rod ends, struts, and motor mounts are toast
  • Brakes and bushings are functional but very tired
  • Heater bypass valve is broken
  • Seeps a bit of oil
  • Minor rust bubbles starting to develop on the rear dog legs, and a silver dollar sized ding on the front edge of the hood that was poorly touch-up painted
  • SIDS display has the inevitable missing pixels (super cheap/easy fix) and the radio functions, but needs to be recoded to the car
  • Trunk door gas struts need replacing
  • Cup holder snapped (but functions and I have the pieces)

This would make an incredible parts car due to the immaculate interior and rare features, or a safe and quick family/parts hauler with a little care and attention. I need it off my hands and want to see it go to someone who appreciates weird Swedish turbo wagons.

GRM price is $1,950.00 and the car is located in Northport, New York.

Is the check engine light on?  What does the broken heater bypass valve do...in other words what problem does it create?  Does it just need brake pads and rotors or are the calipers shot?  Is the steering tragic due to the tie rod ends?

In reply to SKJSS (formerly Klayfish) :

The valve leaks coolant. (In one instance, I got a CE light; in another, the valve suddenly failed spectacularly and I got to ride in a nice flatbed.)

  • The CEL is not on. The SIDS pinged a parking assist failure once on the drive home, but never returned and the parking assist seems to function fine.
  • Just pads and rotors to the best of my knowledge. Calipers are a little crusty, but function properly.
  • Heater bypass valve is a $50 plastic part (https://eeuroparts.com/product/genuine-saab/90566947) and a common failure point on these Saabs. It looks like it crapped out and the previous owner, rather than replace it, just zip-tied off the hoses. The heat doesn't work, and a little coolant dampens the passenger foot well carpet after running for a bit, but none has appeared beneath the car.
  • Not too tragic, but the front end definitely feels a bit loose. This is probably the most immediate fix needed.
