With impending doom, err, the purchase of a cheap formula car, I'll have to clear out some vehicles from my stable. As a result, my RX8 is for sale.

Basic specs (from memory, I'll update as necessary on the weekend):

  • 2006 MT Shinka. Genuine Shinka with the foam filled front crossmember, as Ohlins coilovers instead of the stock Bilsteins.
  • 130k-ish, no record of a replacement motor. Had good compression when I bought it last year (had a compression test done at at a Mazda dealer)
  • Bunch of reliability fixes and mods (new Koyo radiator, Pettit AST with separate header tank, have an LRB Speed undertray to go on. Had new coil packs, plugs and wires shortly after I bought it. I've always run it with Idemitsu premix and synthetic oil (10W30 Idemitsu or 5W30 Royal Purple)
  • Comes with a set of Hankook RS3s fitted and a set of Toyo NoIdeaWhatModel in stock size
  • No hot or cold starting issue. Heck, I've unthinkingly shut it off at a gas station 1/2 mile after a cold start and it just restarted as if nothing had happened. And no, that's not what I normally do with a rotary.

Looking around the $7k mark, although I might consider a partial trade for a comfy 1990s barge like a Mercedes, Lexus, Acura Legend or similar. Or 1600cc VW engine parts. Any car would have to be in similar shape to the RX8 and seat four people better than the RX8 does. Or you could offer me a nice Honda EF/EG Si and some cash on top .

If I hadn't bought a 944 2 months ago I would be headed your way to drive it home. Good luck with the sale.

When will you tell us more about this cheap Formula car?

GLWS it's a good price for a solid HPDE/AUTOX/TT etc. Car. Taller people should carefully apply.

How many spare motors are included?

Once I get my hands on it as that is still a few weeks out.

It's a Formula FST, hence me suddenly becoming interested in 1600cc VW aircooled motors.

Thanks!

I have a fix for taller people . I can be convinced to sell the Recaros and the seat rail with the car. I'm 5'11" and the headroom issue disappears with the Recaro in place.

I'll try to take some current photos when it stops raining.

Forgot to mention a few more items:

  • Recalls done with the exception of the fuel tank ring one as there is no fix for that one yet. So in other words, both airbags/ignitors have been replaced
  • The passenger side cover over the airbag shows the usual cracking
  • Replaced both front hubs with OEM Mazda ones from Mazdaspeed late last year.
  • I fitted a line-in adapter on the OEM stereo
  • It's got the expected wear & tear for a car with this mileage. No rips or tears in the leather but some surface wear. Some $%/§=&%!!!! valet driver broke the buttons on the electric seat switches for the driver's seat - both switches still work though.
  • I drive it on the street but if you want to use it as a pure street car you probably want a tamer alignment.

Best way to contact me is via PM on here. I'm about 1/2h from Reno Tahoe airport if someone wants to do a fly'n'drive.

At 6'1" in a base RX-8, I'm still banging my helmeted skull against things in the cabin. If the future buyer of the Shinka doesn't want the Recaros / rail kit, I'm definitely interested.

Barring that, part numbers of the items would be greatly appreciated!

The rails are "Nagisa Super Low" rails. Got mine from a company called More Japan. Ordered a bunch of parts from them over the years, always very happy with their service. The rails are expensive but IME worth it - had a set in my MR2, too.

Oh, and pickup in September could be discussed over a suitably sized deposit...

Enabler!!! My wife doesn't understand the draw of the air races. Last time I went was 23 years ago, and I can still close my eyes and hear "White Lightning" roll over the crowd. LOL still get chills from the sound of those big Allison V-12's. That said, I've got to pass for the moment.

Fun fact. My uncle was chief of police and sheriff of Washoe for a while.
