2008 Patriot NMSA needs xmission

Posting for a friend, he's looking to either sell for $1k or find someone in mid-Michigan to install a used trans (from car-part.com for about $1k) for $1k-ish.

2008 Jeep Patriot limited.
180,000 miles. Runs but needs new CVT transmission. Very new all-weather tires, catalytic converter recently replaced.
Leather heated seats. Was told that everything else is in good condition but would rather somebody take this who can continue to get good use out of it.
I would part with it for a thousand bucks. Accessories could be included, I have a CURT brand after market tow frame (bolt on), wiring harness, and a dog gate custom fit for the back.

I don't care a thing for these cars so it holds no appeal for me, but if anyone is into these sorts of things, he's a very meticulous kind of guy. It's a CO car, only been in MI a couple years and no known rust

I wouldn't pay $1k for it, what are the hive's thoughts on a fair price? 

Probably $500ish is decent.  At over 180k miles on those they are going to start being a money pit.  Really all depends on what the next owner is going to use it for

Okay, that echoes my sentiments ("people don't want to hear your opinion, they want to hear their opinion coming from your mouth"??). I tossed out the idea of $500 to him and he said only if he kept the tires/wheels and replaced them with junkyard ones (which he's expecting to get for $150).

In other words, I don't think this thing is going anywhere but a junkyard on the day before he moves out of state

He'd be better of joining a Jeep Partiot forum, parting out what he can then take the scrap value
