What is a 4 speed hydromatic transmission? Haven't actually seen one of them that old
In reply to 03Panther :
D21R, that's four. TH350 or 400 I assume. Switch pitch converters came with a powerglide, that could work as a four speed?
In reply to akylekoz :
It's a 99.998 % chance that has a 3 speed TH350 (maybe 400) and the owner, as is typical of many ads, doesn't know what he is talking about.
just my opinion, and sarcasm doesn't come across well in text.
Vice Grip Garage rescued one, come out pretty well. It had the less common straight six, I'd rock that every day! Here's a video.

The early '60s Roto Hydra-Matic was marketed as a four speed. It had three forward gears from a planetary gear set and a fourth from a stator assembly in the integral fluid coupling.

New info! Way cool!
First GM product I ever worked on was the 71 ElCamino I bought in 1980. Had only worked on older fords and dodges up to then.
Worked on a few older gm since then, but the 71 is oldest gm I've owned.
