I appreciate the pics from found status to "cleaned"

I've said before that my formative years were spent in a boat of an '80s wagon owned by my older sister.  I want one myself.

Came in expecting a 300TD.  Didn't find that but still not disappointed.

Sorry, forgot my old school American language is a "dead" language 'round these parts! At least you are Bi-Lingual smiley I can translate, but I still think in my native tongue.

I love older wagons, and grew up around fords, but in the maliaze era, GM's wagon lines look better. The fornt of that is ok, but the rear view is just "off"

For those the 300TD would apeal to me more!

Merc is southern hillbilly for Mercury. ‘Specially if it’s a Hot Rod Merc! We call the others “ them furrin’ things”

Non-southerner here.  I'm confused by all the people who did NOT expect a Mercury.  If it were a Mercedes, it would be a "Mercedes" or a "Benz".

Far more concerned about "was...low mile" (isn't now?) and "had title" ( no longer have it?) and "parked in 88".  I think it's worth scrap value minus a fair charge for my time to come get it (if I were local).

I've also met folks that have 4 wheels and say they have a "beemer." "Beemer's" have 2 wheels! I'm not confused at all, just not what I grew up with. I'm way to much of a crotchety ol' man to change, but I;m proud that I can (sometimes) translate!

Anybody remember the scene in Airplane! where June Cleaver is Translating "Jive"???

That's just the way they talk 'round there, once ya get out of the yuppie areas and away from the yankees and come lately's. I'm sure they meant "was my uncle's , has low miles." Not sure what they mean about the title, but here in the deep south east, a correct bill of sale is more important, on anything older than mid to late 80's.

With all that being said, its def. worth a bit more than scrap / charge to haul, to someone that likes 'em, but not by a lot!

I came here expecting this:

Regarding the name, I'm from the midwest and I came here expecting what I found. HOWEVER, I normally only think of them as "Merc"s  when they're from the 50s or older. This one is firmly in the Mercury camp for me.

I grew up riding in an 81 LTD wagon. A couple years ago I helped a lady along the road put the spare on hers. Afterward I sheepishly asked if I could have a seat in the backseat. I was expecting cavern but got standard size sedan backseat. Nostalgia eliminted.

So it was parked only 8 years after it came out of the showroom (well, this thing never saw the inside of a showroom, let's be honest)? Whatever the reason for that, I doubt time and neglect have improved.

I do have to agree, it should be ‘50’s... actually, gotta agree with all of your points. The only modern one that embodies the 50’s Merc name would be the 03-4 Marauder! My 03 is the Grandma Marquis, but I include it just ‘cause!

Now, the outboard I get. Thinking it’s a ‘Benz I don’t. I have seen folks on here calling a Benz a merc, but I always have to translate.

I’m way to old to consider a 1980 ‘Benz a beautiful old Mercedes! Nice cars, sure. Better than most in the 80’s. But...

Sure, not a gullwing, but still so much cooler than today's swoopy metal lifted coupes.
