Seeing if anyone in the Chicago land area would be interested. It's a Georgia car that's been up in the salt for about 5 years now. It hasn't been running in about two years.
I put an interior in the car twice. Clutch and bi-metallic flywheel, and front suspension bushings all about six years ago.
My daughter tried to turn it into a submarine but had the presence of mind to shut the engine off. The wiring is really the issue. It set about 15 years ago in Georgia and chipmunks made a mess of the harness. I've traced through a lot of it but the windows and body control module stuff just doesn't work reliably... apparently even with all the body plugs out it floats pretty good... the E36 M3ty wiring was not a fan of being wet.
Wish I could find a solid, running e36 4cyl as a project. I suggest adding pics detailing any salt issues, car condition. Good luck with the sale

It's a really solid runner... it's just not a comfort car from an interior perspective anymore... the heater is somewhat permanently on and you can't open the sunroof or the windows. I'll see if I can get some pics but right now it's covered in snow...
I've known 2 of the previous owners for some time now and have worked on the car long before it was mine. The BMW shop in Athens Georgia cut the tunnel to do the clutch. I think when i welded it back together...that's about when I became the mechanic.
It's got a set of Z4 rims with it.... I should just post those for sale and say the car has to go with them.

I have the twin to that car! I have 3 e36's that need a new home.

Seems that there could be an interesting background story here about an encounter with a lake, river, or deep puddle/flooded street that begs for more details. Do tell!

Quote of the day.
Yeah, we want more details and pitchers. "Submarine"? "Floats without the body plugs"?
And a price would be good.

Well...to me challenge priced puts it in the $500 range. Leaves room for whatever...also implys open to trades (for something smaller than another project)
Seriously, you could sell the rims and pay for the car.
The youngest daughter likes to drive fast... apparently even in heavy rain at night with flood warnings out. Drove it right into a flooded road. After she got out, the water got deeper until the rear of the car started to float away.
Nothing awful or tremendously entertaining lol.
Oof.
I DO have an unneeded 5.3.
I really couldn't right now. Probably for the better.
Good thing I recently bought a challenge bmw. Otherwise I'd be tempted by this.

4 clean Georgia z4 rims and 2 stock 318....
Might trade for a nice set of 6lug toy/lc rims and tires. 20v 4age stuff, 7m, 70s celica, tr4 or gt6 body parts...sheet metal tools, bench shear, brake etc.

well I didn't have a lift when I did the clutch the second time. But I went ahead and popped the radiator support off and pulled the motor and trans out together from the front...
it's really not that bad to do it right
