54,xxx miles.
Hopefully this doesn't get buried because I could use some advice, but here goes. My Mustang listed above has been listed for sale this summer and last on two different web sites. In that time, I have not had any serious offers. Few scammers, few guys that said they would buy it if they could sell some car they own. No one telling me I'm crazy for asking my price. So, any ideas why my car isn't selling? Too high asking price, flooded market, seats that only I like ??? Tonight, I took the car to a local dealer that sells classic and specialty cars (at it's own location) thinking they would give me wholesale or trade in price but at least I would have a bottom price. They were impressed with the car but they wanted to see the window sticker if I still had it which I do along with all the SVT papers. I have to go back Saturday with said paperwork and so the dealership owner can see the car. I don't need to sell the car, my interests have just changed. Anyone else having problems selling cars over a 8k price?

My thought, and I mean no offense by this, is that it is not a remarkably rare nor remarkably desirable model- at the moment. While it is a very clean, unmolested, fairly low mile example, the SN-95 chassis is still depreciating. It's a car that has not yet reached the age where it's desirable for its age, and appeals to more collectors. It is a small group of folks looking for 94-95 cobras. The mileage isn't low enough for time capsule status, and the types of collectors who buy those. The larger group into ones like yours are those looking to drive them, and the are more likely to buy a modded one for half the price. In a few years, it'll sell for that or more, no problem
In reply to rustybugkiller:
First off this looks to be a super clean example of a 94-95 cobra and i'm not saying your car isn't worth your asking price but at your price point i can shop around and pick up a mach1 or 99-01 cobra and both are more desirable cars to the masses and this is coming from a guy who loves sn-95's has a 95gt and a 67 coupe.
FYI- The cloth seats in your cobra are an extremely uncommon option, i can't find the production numbers at the moment but from memory i think it was right around 100 cars that came that way.
I'm pretty much behind what GCooper said. It's an extremely well maintained excellent example of what it is, but it hasn't hit a desirability or collectability point yet that will get people to let loose the purse strings.
You are at a price point where most people don't have that kind of cash yet at an age of vehicle where getting a loan will be difficult.
Car folks are weird folks. I've had cars for sale (still do) that everyone claims to want but I can't seem to sell them. Heck the one I put up on a private auction to just the real nutcases who would want it. $1 starting bid and no reserve and no one came up with the cash so even when there's desire there is often little follow through. I'm gonna end up having to part that one out just because I would really like it gone but no want seems to want to buy it.
I'm with everyone else. Yours is an outstanding, low-mileage example, but the demand for early SN95 Cobras just doesn't seem to be there. Part of the issue is that the power of the Cobra (240 HP) was quickly eclipsed by the New Edge GTs, and the early Cobras don't offer the IRS (which at least serves to differentiate it from lesser Mustangs - I'm not saying it's necessarily better). I have a soft spot for them, as they're one of the last of the original 5.0s. A guy in my local Mustang club has a turbo'd '94 Cobra with 600+ HP/TQ on an original short block, so they're a great platform to build on.
I'm a Mustang guy (I sold my two '92s and currently have an 01 GT), and in the 10k range, I'd be looking a New Edge Bullit or Mach 1. They're several years newer, and were limited editions that seem to be holding their value pretty well. Honestly, I'd also be looking at saving a few thousand more and try to get into an S197.
I'd try a SVT-specific site like SVTPerformance, but I'd also put it out on Corral and Stangnet.
Good luck with the sale!

Great point on the SVT Performance recommendation. If your buyer is on the interwebz, that's where he is.
update: I just came back from the classic car dealer that I mentioned in my earlier post. The manager that I talked to wasn't working tonight but the owner came out introduced himself, asked some questions about the car and offered 8k. He continued by telling me what he would price the car at and what he thought he could sell it for. I was almost ready to say yes except that I had just gotten a call from someone about an hour from me, very interested in the car. I told the dealer I would sleep on the offer.

Jump on that 8K offer.

That is something I wasn't sure of, but makes sense. Thanks for the knowledge! The 95 GTS I nearly bought awhile back had those seats.

They're not the same seats as the V6/GTS cars. V6 seats look like a couple pieces of wood with cloth over them and are horrendously uncomfortable. I'm 90% sure the 94-95 Cobras have the same seats as GT's with differences in upholstery. Sorry for the giant pic, but this is a V6/GTS seat.

Sorry for the threadjack, but are you saying you still have the Yugo after all this time?
That's a very nice car and a very good ad. I'm not sure what the market value is for one of those but, as other have pointed out, that a tough price point. There are a lot of options out there (Mustangs and others) for similar money.
That might be an eBay car. You have to find the successful 35 year old guy who absolutely needed to have a new Mustang Cobra when he was 15. He had the brochure tacked to his wall next to the Cindy Crawford poster.

Yes, I'll shoot you a PM rather than muck up the thread :)
You'll need to log in to post.
