Ok, the time has come. Who needs a workhorse BMW? 1999 528iT, 165k miles. Mighty M52 runs excellent, AC is cold. Starts every time. Cosmetics aren’t great, but not bad and the lines on this car are just so beautiful. It has some cool stuff too - rear seat window shades, sliding load shelf in the cargo area, 5th BBS wheel for a spare.
All the underbody plastic is brittle and broken. I have an under-engine tray that I’m going to install this coming weekend, along with a new window regulator passenger rear and hopefully fix the twist issue with the 2 front seats. The seat covers are trashed but would be awesome with a set of fuzzy wool covers on them.
It could use a suspension, but is all coils (no air) so if you just do the shocks/struts you’d have an easy bump in handling. Beyond that I could see doing suspension bushings/arms, but I’m not going to wade into that at this point.
If you are looking for a cheap, reliable beater that is cool, has great lines, and runs like a top, this is your car. During the hurricanes we hauled a generator, fuel tanks, and other assorted gear, stuffed it full of coolers, it’s basically a queen-sized area when the rear seats are down. The cargo cover has the integrated dog net too, but it has been out in and taken out enough times in its life that you need to use a putty knife to detach it for removal.
Happy to answer questions! Asking $2500, fairly firm, but if it’s an GRM'er buying it let’s talk. Located in Tampa. Have lots more pics, let me know if there is something specific you want to see!
