That will likely be a simple repair. Open the the hood and look at the engine. Do you see signs that A hack has been there? If not it won't take a lot to get it running. I have no doubt with that low mileage you won't need to do a thing mechanical to the car. I've taken engines with 200,000 miles on them apart and there was no ridge in the cylinder walls. ( due to low piston speed because the stroke is so short )
What's your goal after the challenge? Driver , race car, restoration ?

You can pick up a lot of horsepower at higher RPM with a camshaft regrind. Changing camshafts is very easy compared to a Chevy. You can do both in about 1/2 the time a Chevy will take. Stock the valves only lift .375 off the seat and have very short duration. It runs out of breath at 5500 RPM. Isky charges $150 a cam for a regrind. Their XM3 will put a little over 50 horsepower and make power up to 6500. The XM4 is a little stronger and brings power up to 80 hp at 7000 rpm ( very safe) both still idle smoothly at 650 rpm. The XM5 is weaker below 3500 but can add 100 hp.
Stock valve springs are fine. They don't float until 8300 rpm.
Then there is E85. Because of the stock high compression and cooling effect of alcohol That's worth a solid 55-60 horsepower all you e got to do is figure out how to get 20% more fuel past those injectors.

It won't be too fast at the challenge. Stock it's geared to go 150 mph (2.88 ratio) and it weighs 4668 pounds. Plus the throttle is set up to smoothly add power rather than dump it in all at once. The stock muffler and intake air cleaner costs you 30 hp and 20 hp respectively. Add cold air and there is another 10 horsepower.
I have 235x16 on 7 inch wide rims. There is room for at least 245x16 maybe even 255x16. I'm picking up a set of fender flairs by the guy who did group 44's body work. They allow NASCAR TIRES. Take offs are cheap.
The prices of XJS like that in England would be around £20,000 so it's a smart investment.

I'm not planning to buy this one, just thought it was a fun one to share. If I ever buy a v12 XJS, it will most likely be so that I can v12 swap my xj6, not really interested (at the moment) in building an XJS challenge car.

Too bad. This is one that Someone could flip, get running cheap and sell in the spring for a very nice profit. Take the extra mirrors off though.
