This is analogous to someone making a Corvette Kart out of a V6 Accord. That thing looks terrifying.

Actually, no. Honda came out with the GW when almost no factory bikes had a faring of any kind. Including the GW. Craig Vetter started making aftermarket fairings out of that newfangled fiberglass stuff just a bit before, and someone adapted his largest (the windjammer) to a GW. Got to be so popular, a few years later Honda started buying Windjammers from Vetter, and putting them on brand new GWs. I think it was 84 or so when Honda designed there first ever full dressed hwy. bike based on the nekkid gold wing's platform.

And started a whole subset of the motorcycle market!!!

The BMW R90S made that aftermarket faring shape popular. But that's the only problem with that bike. Looks great, and I never cared much for the early GWs.

When the GW came out, it was just a normal bike with a funny engine.  Craig Vetter changed all that into the bloated almost Accords that block roadways today.

Nice picture. I knew a few guys on them back then, and a few that added aftermarket fairings.
They definitely nailed the funny looking engine category!
Craig Vetter did some pretty amazing things, for a guy that was essentially a hippy: bike nut!!!

If anyone here buys a Wing, I will donate the tool that holds the cams in place while you replace the belt.  If in doubt replace the belt !!!
