Once you get rid of all the extraneous stuff (like 3 washer motors, dual hvac motors...) they're a lot less intimidating to deal with.

My favorite 928 race car.

I'd imagine that V8 howls beautifully when uncorked!

Anyone know if the sounds of the 928 in Risky Business are actual sounds from an actual 928? I recall the movie car sounded good, but who knows if the sound came from the car or was put there in the editing room.

One of the more memorable Chumpcar Porsches I've seen was a 928. It was loud and sounded meaner than most of the small block pony cars in the field.

There was a 928 at Chumpcar, but not for a Challenge?? How does that happen?

I'll just leave Mark Anderson's 500hp 928 GTS here:

Oh and it ran in the Speed World Challenge GT series:

MOAR info and a great 928 Vendor.

In reply to alfadriver:

Quick on a road course against cheap econoboxes with a car built from the factory to run German autobahns with more freedom for safety and replacement parts, does not make for a quick autocross/drag/concours car.

Just saying, I don't think a Chump/LeMons race car will ever do well at the Challenge, just two completely different rule sets and racing styles.

In reply to Stefan:

Being a good autocross car isn't a criteria when it comes to choosing a challenge car.

At least not for everyone. Sometimes the raw coolness of a car is a good reason. A V8 P car would be a good reason.

I'm pretty darned sure if someone shows up with a V8 P car, they would get their own, dedicated, article. Assuming that it did reasonably well.

Just sayn.

Ok, bring one.

I like the noises they make, but I don't have any interest in them past that.

I've already gotten a full article for my Challenge car- don't need another.

I'm just surprised that a Chumpcar has happened, but a challenge car has not.

In reply to alfadriver:

I'm not. Completely different builds, rules and events.

There are better vehicles to build for the Challenge.

Not to say that it won't happen, I mean there's an AMC coming this year and there have been Cherokees and other nutty builds, but with Chump/Lemons you're more worried about making the cars run, drive reliably and be safe than you are stuffing as much tire under them, making them fast and making them pretty.

I see a kid driving a black one around here. Whenever he pulls away that thing sounds mean. Too mean to be just a Porsche V8, but I doubt its anything but. Real nice car.

given the cars I've seen at the challenge, a V8 P car would be cool.

Because YOU don't want to do it does not mean it would be a cool challenge car. It's just not for you.

I totally get that they are different races. It's not as if I've not participated. There have been some TERRIBLE autocrossing cars that have been at the challenge- so that's not nearly as big as you would suggest. Which is why I (me, myself, I) am surprised that a Chump car has happened but a challenge car has not.
