I mean, it's generally neat, and bonus for being a weird not-normal-US-model that's still LHD, but... Seriously, five on the tree? Heaven forfend that linkage develops any slop...

Alfa made 5 on the tree work, so surely Toyota could do it better
Wow, 5 speed...on the column, diesel powered, painted what looks like school bus yellow, and has a pop-up roof? Mucho Grande Japanese cool-weird.
I've wondered how hard a 5 spd on the column would be using a cable-shifter mechanism. I'd like to see how that Toyota shifter works. Since the transmission is about half the van away from the steering column, my hunch is it's a cable shifter.
In reply to Ian F (Forum Supporter) :
At the time, Toyota was sticking a cable shifter in every MR2 and (fwd) Corolla that had three pedals so it would be weird if this van didn't have cables too.
In reply to ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :
Yeah... I don't know of any modern FWD car that doesn't use cable shifters. And to be honest, the cable shifters in my TDI and MINI felt miles better than the vague shifter that was in my E30 - even after I replaced every possible bushing.
Whoah, that thing is cool!
As for price - yeah anything with a pop top is 20k these days, assuming it runs/drives/looks like it wasn't recently on fire or submerged for several years.
