I bought this knowing it might be a while until I get to work on it, but in reality it will probably be years before I touch it. Maybe someone here will be interested in a cheap toy to run Auto-X, Solo 1/2, hillclimb, time trials or ...............

Here is a link to the thread from when it arrived at the shop, Banshee project.

So does this fit the formula Vee rules?

I'd love to see pics of the front suspension pullrod setup, though just for my own build not because i'm an interested buyer (ie if you have pics handy im interested but please prioritize real buyers over me)

In reply to Robbie (Forum Supporter) :

Not the OP, but IIRC both FV and FST require you to use the VW Bug front suspension.

I would expect this one to have rather nicer handling though .

What has two thumbs and will probably spend a bunch of time in the SCCA rulebook tonight?

Yeah, it's me...

What has two thumbs and fully supports this decision?

But seriously I think you'll be in Dmod at nearly the lowest minimum weight class (maybe add 50 lbs for more than %50 of the weight on the rear axle).

Turbo/FI would put you squarely in Emod.

D/E mod are silhouette classes for production based cars. Formula cars are C, B, A mod.

Locally I'd guess the CM guys would accept this, but I have not perused the specifics in depth.

I assumed you were draping a production based body on top of this. Like a fiberglass ranger or t-bird. Maybe a 8.5/10ths scale wagon...

I think you've posted that before and I wanted to buy it back then as well. It's super small though right? like 60ish inch wheelbase?

That is super cool. I have been trying to appeal to my kids to sell my Cushman Trackster to make room and $ to get something like that. No success yet...

It would directly compare to a cmod on performance characteristics, but would most likely have to run in Bmod, as while it was designed to run with formula ford's, it's not a formula ford and cmod is limited to ff and vee's. Running in Bmod depends on reading the roadrace GCR and it fitting criteria for another formula class. If that can't be figured out, it's Amod.

These were made for frcca to be cheap running additions to a field of older formula ford's and pretty much have no scca home other than catch-all classes.

In reply to Apexcarver :

That is what my research is turning up as well.
Technically, it doesn't fit BM because the roll hoops are not SCCA GCR compliant. With a 97" wheelbase, it is not likely to be competitive in either BM or AM. With regard to Solo, this car is for a guy who just wants to autoX a formula car and have fun.

$4k is beyond my limit for a cut-it-up-and-see project. Hopefully lotusseven7 can find a FRCCA guy to buy it.

I had a local guy look at the car yesterday and he plans to pick it up tomorrow morning. He is going to run it, for now, in its current configuration and consider a motorcycle engine swap in the future.

Pending pick-up.

Interesting, you don't see many of these Banshee's around.  AJ's home grown creation for the FRCCA.  No idea how many were actually made, couldn't have been more than a handful.  I ran FRCCA for a couple of years back 8 or 9 years ago now.  I think there were only two or three of them running at that time.  I was running an 82/83 Reynard FF.  They didn't seem to have a fit outside the FRCCA, as other's have mentioned they weren't really a Formula Ford,.  But they were designed to have comparable performance to the typical CFF cars.  Good group of guys though, I enjoyed running with them.
