I think it's part of the game.
Im not paying $20,000 over sticker and you argue and fight and get you down to $3,000-$5,000 over sticker. Then later you realize you paid $3,000 over sticker.

Generally I would agree. But I've always wondered why everyone bags on dealers for marking up cars over MSRP but seems okay with individuals buying an in-demand car and immediately listing it on BaT (or elsewhere) and selling it for a big profit. Same behavior, right?

I (and at least a few others I've seen online) bag on individual flippers too.
But also, I don't think these flips make as much money as they appear, particularly with cheaper* cars like Type Rs. (*cheaper relative to things like limited production Ferraris). My hope is that all of these wishful flippers lose money and/or time on flips while OEMs still make a profit on sports cars and continue to produce them.
That's embarrassing, especially given the location.
Drive 1.5 hours North or South and you're in much, much bigger markets where dealers are willing to sell for MSRP. CTR seems like the type of car folks are willing to drive for.
When the Acura Integra A-Spec manual trans came out I stopped at a dealer just to check it out as I wasn't buying that day but was curious about the car.
Manager asked if I was interested and I said I wasn't especially with that $10,000 adjustment adder. Dude tells me he'll drop it if I buy that day and pay sticker. I think it's all part of the pricing game.
I love that Type S but what a butt load of money.....
If I pay $20k over MSRP and then trade it in at the same scumbag dealership a year later, will they promise to give me $20k over trade in value for it?
Or will they tell me that I was foolish to overpay for it?
In reply to Woody (Forum Supportum) :
You need to purchase Gap Insurance cause they'll give you the book value and your 20k went away........play that Kansas rock song; Dust in the Wind....
In reply to Datsun240ZGuy :
Will gap insurance cover your bad purchasing decision though?
Also, I really dislike that band.
I guess I don't see the harm in putting it out there, as no one has to buy it. It's an offer to sell for $x, why get insulted over it?

Because they rot on the lot, the OEM sees low sales, and enthusiast cars get cancelled in favor of more $40K CUVs that they'll knock $1000 off MSRP. Ironically sustaining volume on those and locking us all into this downward spiral of suckitude. :P
I would be totally in favor of letting dealers ask whatever they want if the informed consumer could buy direct from the OEM at MSRP.

I got burned out with Kansas and Bad Company in the 1980's.
If I ever hear another Breakfast with the Beatles radio show I might shoot myself.
