Selling my Quantum Mechanics GT6 / **Spitfire 5 Speed Conversion kit. This kit has not been used. Selling because I have decided to build a rotary Spitfire. Asking $2,500.00 plus shipping
**Quantum offers kits for both Spitfires and GT6's. The only differences are the length of the drive shaft and the length of the input shaft. I contacted Quantum Mechanics today and the gentleman said he will be happy to swap out these parts at no charge. You will need to do this to use this kit in your Spit.

From Quantum:
"Tired of revving the daylights out of your GT6 on the highway? Can’t find a serviceable overdrive transmission? Here is the solution! This is a complete package, 5 speed conversion kit for the GT6 car, MK1 through MK3. Package includes a modified rebuilt fully synchronized Ford type 9 transmission with 0.82:1 ratio on fifth gear and everything you need to install it in the car. New driveshaft, transmission mount kit, bell housing adapter, transmission tunnel and rug, clutch kit, shifter and speedometer cable are supplied along with all hardware and step by step instructions. You reuse your original flywheel, bell housing and all hydraulic clutch components. Some drilling of holes and sheet metal work is required and the speedometer must be recalibrated. Warrantied for one year. This is one of our most successful new kits. Kit now comes with semi close ratio transmission (3.36:1 first gear) as part of the base kit.
Price is $3175.00 outright inc. plus $125.00 shipping in the USA.
A friend put one of these kits in his MGA and loves it.

Oh you're killing me. I have a '72 GT6 and need a new transmission for it and have been drooling over one of these kits. Need to sell more stuff... Where are you located?
In reply to Ian F: Dallas TX area. I see you are in PA. Looks like shipping would be the only way. No matter, it packs well.

Well... if it's not too much trouble, can you estimate shipping? I have to admit, one advantage for me buying a kit directly from QM is he shows up at the Carlisle Import/Kit show in PA every May so if I buy a kit I don't have to pay shipping. While I'd like to not wait that long, I do have another 4 spd I can swap in for awhile... plus, even at the discount, it's still a lot of money I don't really have at the moment.
In reply to Ian F:
Tell you what Ian, I am happy to find a potential buyer on this board right away and not have to put it on eBay where I would have to pay the listing and seller fees. How about I split the shipping with you then?? Should be about $120 so you add $60 and I'll pay the remainder, whatever it is?
I can also take PayPal for all or part if you want to use a credit card. I would ask that you add the Paypal 3% fee though.

I'll have to find our old e-mails when I get to work on Monday, but I'm hoping you are getting notifications for thread posts.
This kit does NOT fit a GT6. Not sure WTF I'm going to do now... Anyone interested in a T-9 kit for a Spitfire? Because that's what the bellhousing adapter is for. The input shaft isn't correct either. Would be REALLY nice if you can find the instruction manual like you said you would.
To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.
Ian
You may can contact Quantum and see if they would do a swap.

Yes, I've been planning to do that as the seller never sent instructions for the kit anyway. Waiting for John to say: "oh you're screwed... the kits are totally different and nothing transfers..." But maybe a swap is possible. I actually wasn't planning to go to Carlisle this year, but looks like I may be now...
I wonder what the difference in the kits is? Can you tell by visiting John's web site?

Spoke to John a few mintes ago. Apparently the adapter is the same. Some ofthe holes line up, but a couple of new holes need to be drilled in the bell housing. He's going to e-mail a set of instructions to me.
Great Hope it works out.
I have a Ford Type 9 (bought from John Brown) sitting in my storage building that I have been toying with putting into one of my Spitfires. I can buy the adapter plate from Canleys for about $120 plus shipping.
I wish I had half of the parts I sold in the past ;)

I've seen T-9's on eBay but shipping is usually a killer. None for sale right now, tho...
Hey Ian,
Sorry I have not checked in in a while and I don't think the site allows for getting notifications.
I have the bell housing I was using and will be happy to send it to you.
That kit is for GT6, not Spit. I had it installed on my Gt6 engine.
Sorry about the instructions. I have not found them.
