Right, time to get my act together and sell the driveway ornament that my RX8 as become.
So why do I advertise a running RX8 this cheap? What's wrong with it?
Rodents ate my wiring loom (how's that for a song title?). From what I know (see bad photo), part of the wiring loom to the MAF/IAT has been chewed through. That might be a relatively easy fix, but I suspect that there is more damage I haven't been able to find yet - battery warning light is on, alternator is controlled via the ECU, it's the same loom, you get the picture. Easiest fix is likely to be a replacement engine bay loom. Saw several listed on the Bay of Flea for ~100 bucks, but I don't have the time to change the loom. My loss is your gain.
Here's the good and bad that I know of.
- 2006 MT Shinka. Genuine Shinka with the foam filled front crossmember
- Ohlins coilovers fitted shortly after I bought it
- 135k-ish, no record of a replacement motor. Had good compression when I bought it in 2016 and Ihad a compression test done at at a Mazda dealer before purchase.
- Bunch of reliability fixes and mods (new Koyo radiator, Pettit AST with separate header tank, have an LRB Speed undertray to go on. Had new coil packs, plugs and wires shortly after I bought it. I've always run it with Idemitsu premix and synthetic oil (10W30 Idemitsu or 5W30 Royal Purple)
- Comes with a set of Hankook RS3s fitted and a set of Toyo NoIdeaWhatModel in stock size
- No hot or cold starting issue. Heck, I've unthinkingly shut it off at a gas station 1/2 mile after a cold start and it just restarted as if nothing had happened. And no, that's not what I normally do with a rotary.
- Recalls done with the exception of the fuel tank ring. So in other words, both airbags/ignitors have been replaced
- The passenger side cover over the airbag shows the usual cracking
- Replaced both front hubs with OEM Mazda ones from Mazdaspeed late 2016.
- Has an line-in adapter on the OEM stereo
- Battery is a couple of months old (Interstate from Costco) and has been mostly sitting in the garage on a charger
- It's got the expected wear & tear for a car with this mileage. No rips or tears in the leather but some surface wear. Some $%/§=&%!!!! valet driver broke the buttons on the electric seat switches for the driver's seat - both switches still work though.
- I drive it on the street but if you want to use it as a pure street car you probably want a tamer alignment and slightly less on/off brakepads
- IIRC the wind deflector on the sunroof is broken
- Yes, it's been beat on. The license plate reads "TRK TOY" for a reason.
- Southwestern car - minimal to no corrosion.
- Have both keys/remotes
- Clean and clear NV title in hand
If you're willing to pay close to the asking price, I'll throw in the OEM three book Mazda shop manual and a set of Nagisa Super Low rails for a side mount bucket seat in.
Looking for around $3k, please feel free to make an offer. Car is in Northern Nevada - it's drivable, but I wouldn't drive it very far as is. Not really looking for trades, trying to reduce the fleet.
