From what I remember 95% of them were Wolfsburgs in 1986.  Why wouldn't it be real?

Because 5%? Sure looks like a Wolfsburg to me, though.

Those were everywhere in the 80s ,  Triple white ones we called "Stewardess cars" 

Cannot remember seeing one for years ,

I like the Wolfsburg Cabbies quite a bit. They had the JH (GTI) motor, the close ratio gearbox, the best seats VW had available (short of the Recaros in the MK2 GTI/GLI range) and came with a rear sway bar making them a genuinely valid alternative to a Rabbit GTI. The German production meant they lacked the gross interior of the US built cars (Yes I am counting the velour GTI interior). The convertible means they weighed just under #200lbs more than the GTIs. Not as bad as everyone thinks.

That particular one though..... Looks like a parts car to me
