Always loved these. This one appears to be in great shape despite of the miles.
Oh hey, David's mentioned that he wanted one of these as a kid. I'll send it his way.
Side note: That does look pretty clean for the age and mileage.
I've had two of these, they're cool. I wish I'd kept the second one, SoCal car with all the period mods.
I had the twin sister to this car when I moved to Florida in '96. Ohio winters then Florida salt air did it in. I still have the driveline and suspension on the racks.
If anybody buys this one, I have the rear bumper cover.
Also have a set of coil overs based on Dirtras that Road Race used to sell. The Dirtras are toast but the housings are good for other inserts.
I think the suspension is part of what murdered mine. It was so stiff it would lift a back wheel going into a driveway.
I had one and a half of these. I still kinda miss it, it was the perfect size and really fun to drive. Mine was very close to stock, especially in the powertrain. It was in excellent shape. I sold it to the friend of a friend who immediately put on a bigger turbo and blew something up.
My spare shell was completely rust free and had Dirtas. I sold it to a Canadian who drove 1500 miles to GJ to pick it up, then stopped by SLC to pick up a GTX stash that was being liquidated and headed back home.
I had one of these cool little cars for years. The seats were probably my favorite feature and the interior was everything 80's awesome. Plus a ton of fun on trails and back roads; my buddy in his manual 4Runner and I would always go out after a rain. Only sold because parts are literally non-existent. That one for sale is pretty clean for the mileage.
I did little to no off-roading in mine, but it loved some slippery surface. It would take a half step out in the rear and happily throttle steer like a proper rally car.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
I can confirm that perfect step out. In the winters I had a set of 155 Hakkapeliittas for it. Lock the center diff with any kind of snow coverage and the car was a blast. IIRC the front and rear diffs had different ratios, front was 4.10 and the rear was 3.90. I had a friend that had the other one in my town that snapped an axle turning into a parking lot because the diff was locked.
I had many trips into northern Michigan for weekend ski trips where there was 4+ inches of snow on the highway. Traffic was down to two black ribbons on the 3 lane road. I figured the fast lane was to the left of the ribbons. Cruising near the speed limit in unplowed snow when people were creeping along was as stupid as it was fun.
I remember the gear ratios being close and with a high final drive; 70 mph was floating around 4k rpm iirc with only 6k redline or so on the dash. Still a great little car I wish I could've kept for fun backroad trips. Super rare and I 'd get thumbs up occasionally while driving. Probably because I'd leave it covered in mud.
