In reply to rdcyclist :
Pretty sure a stock Vespa 400 would go for well over $10K nowadays (the market for microcars is crazy), but I have no idea how to value one modified like this. Pretty cool, though.

I'd value it less.
I don't think the VW engine adds value. I think it detracts.

Nope, I have no idea what they're going for either...
I always thought a thousand bucks was one racing unit (1RU).

You are not alone. It's a new one to me, too.
I think at 10,500 firm the seller will be keeping it for a very long time while it deteriorates even more. It's rough enough on the outside and with the engine cover not shutting all the way that I cringe what was done to do the swap
It's not worth that much IMO, but I think that's a cool looking tiny car and w/ a hot VW motor it would be kinda silly.
If we're day-dreaming a bike engine would be REALLY silly
Steve reference: poster "A Miata Named Steve" says....."$1k. Or by my reckoning, 1 Steve (the blue Miata in my profile pic). I bought that car for a grand in college and it's been the yardstick by which I measure all other purchases ever since"

Agreed, would definitely be worth less than a stock one in similar condition.
