Bugger.
so it's not a hack job but he was going to put it on a 4x4 s10 frame. Derp.
i'd love to have that, but zero need

With a Welder it can be Whatever Wheel Drive you want.
Lol - Yeah, but that's true for any car, eh? ;) I have some miata subframes that are begging to be grafted onto something, but this car doesn't seem like the best candidate. I feel like this car is asking for some odd mid-engined make-over.
I think someone needs to step up to the plate and slap an LS into that car to compete in the 2021 challenge. We know it can be done with FWD as the Nelsons have taught us......
I had that 1983 Pontiac poster on my wall for years as a kid, wish I still had it.
As far as the car is concerned, I wonder if this cage would be legal for Lemons/etc?
Ohhh I like weird 80s Pontiac's. I happen to have an 86 sunbird turbo gt rotting in buddy's pasture with a good motor/trans..

I have some bad news for you...
I did a search, one of those J2000 IMSA cars was featured on Bring A Trailer back in 2011: https://bringatrailer.com/2011/09/29/1982-pontiac-j2000-race-car/ Someone in the comments brings up a good point - it may look like a J2000, but that's just the skin only and underneath it's a purpose built car. Put a good engine in it and you'd have something. It looks like the same car is pictured here: http://newvoiceoldcars.com/ebay/history/82j2000racer/
As for the Buick front clip, maybe the Pontiac clip got damaged at some point and the Buick parts were easier to get, or maybe sponsorship changed from Pontiac to Buick at some point so they just made it look like a Buick. Stuff happens. It appears Bobby Brown is still around (and raced in a wide variety of cars after this one) so you could maybe track him down and get more history on the car (who knows, maybe he'd like to have it back.)
In reply to Peabody :
You'd be surprised what abuse those motors will take, an 19 year old me doubled the boost and drove flat out everywhere. Even with warped head that seaped oil
