- "Low mileage Toyota Prius. Very good on gas. 155731 miles. Drives good. About 2 years ago, I had to get new converter (stolen). Recently it stared to make rattling sound from catalyst piece that fell out inside the converter. Not sure if it needs new converter. It is driving fine. It costed me 150$ to replace it the first time. The trunk hatch handle will need to be replaced as well."

I bought that one based on your recommendation. I finally got around to installing it this past weekend. SUPER easy repair.
Can you tow a Prius on a Tow Dolly or flat tow them ?
Thanks for the info
Easy with a dolly. But, NO can not be flat towed.
Perhaps another quirk worth mentioning. You have to have 12v power to move the trans to neutral. Said another way, you have to be able to at least play the car radio to get the electronic transmission to shift out of Park and into Neutral. So, if you are buying a dead Prius (which this one above is not) bring a battery and jumper cables if you don't want to have the drag the parked tires up onto the trailer or dolly.

'09 Prius w/191k asking $3.8k
This is in your general neighborhood. It's not a bad price. Miles are 190k but that's not a real worry. It is a 2009 so being the last year its the newest Gen2 you can buy. It is completely loaded (leather, nav radio, HID headlights, fogs) The only option it doesn't have is 16" wheels vs standard 15"
As for oddities, the only thing I see it that the proper parked position for the rear wiper is up and this one is parked at the down position? I suspect the rear wiper motor is not working.
In reply to John Welsh :
JW, what's the add on to the torque pro app that you mentioned in Michael's thread? I see a generic Toyota add on, but nothing Prius specific in the play store.
Thanks,
Steve

Someone else's video (that I did not watch) but probably really helpful.
You'll need a BT adapter. Here is some research on good/bad version of those. https://priusapp.com/obd.html I personally have the Panlong and works great.
Note: Torque Pro only works with Android, not Apple
Here is how I have customized my Torque Pro screen on my Android. This is a screen shot but it reads in real time so the values change as you drive.

Just to make sure ,
Do you do any damage "flat towing" well really dragging it non-running with a rope 100ft , 1000 ft or a mile to get it out of traffic or the next off ramp ?
Thanks again
In reply to californiamilleghia :
I have never done and never tried to do that. I guess I'm just lucky that way.
You say non-running. Can you at least get the equivalent of turning the key to Accessory? You'll need that to get the car out of Park and into Neutral. If the 12v battery is dead bring any car battery and jumper cables or jumper box. Place the spare battery in the trunk and with cables just jump to the spare battery or charger.
In the case of "have to do it" I would recommend keeping the speeds low, like under 20 mph.
I just found this quote: https://hometownhybrids.com/towing-a-prius/
Per Toyota’s owners manual– In emergencies, if it’s absolutely necessary to flat-tow a Prius on all four wheels. This should only be done for short distances and at speeds of 18 miles per hour or less.
Hi John ,
this was just a question , I do not have a Prius that I am looking at , just wanted to make sure that I as not doing any damage ,
It s just sometimes non- running cars need to get moved !
If I get one I will make sure to bring a 12v battery ,
Thanks again , sorry for so many questions

Agreed. That looks like a nice car for his daughter.

Ha! I already saw that one earlier today (and I'm staying in the same town). I guess I'll have to make a bigger effort to go take a look at it!
Thanks.

It's at a dealership down the street.
In reply to SV reX :
If you can ask the dealer to send you the VIN and I'll pull the dealer history. Better yet, if you are really that near, in the morning, before the dealership opens, just go take a picture of the VIN

Not a dealer. Repair shop.
Car was locked up, and I didn't feel like fighting the dogs. I'll go back in the daylight.

Hey John:
Can you look this one up for me?
Honestly, there are a lot of red flags. It's not a repair shop, it's a shade tree body shop. The entire driver's side has a bad case of orange peel paint. Has a registration sticker from NY. The leather is worn, and they left some stupid little things broken, like the center console hatch won't stay closed.
It's not something for me to get excited about, but as a beater commuter for my daughter, it's still possible.
He says it has a clean title, but it looks like it may have had a lot of bad body work. It might be a scrubbed title.
Dealer service doesn't tell than much of a recent story.
Last Dealer service was July 2014 @ 85k oil change and AC filter at the dealership
Nov 2013 @ 80k it looks like it got oil change, wiper blades and 4 tires all at the dealership.
In the years before these visits it was getting steady visits to the dealership for oil changes. But, all of that was a long time ago. It has racked up another 100k+ since the last time it was at a dealership, nearly 10 years ago. (I don't take my car to the dealership either.)
Unfortunately, the site is not telling me which dealership did the work. What I mean is this is not providing me evidence that the car was always south or not.
Just googling the 17 digit vin returns no results either.
Sort of struck out here...but it was free. Maybe someone who has access will send you a CFax or similar.
