That's awesome! My first car was a 77 Aspen wagon with a warmed over 318, thanks to a co-worker of my dad's who built circle track motors as a hobby. It held it's own in a few grudge match races. It met its demise one rainy night when my sister decided to bounce it off some trees, she was fine.

I am shocked that there are any of these cars left. My aunt had a 1976 Volare wagon that she bought new. I'm pretty sure that the rear quarters had rusted through by 1979, and she lived about 20 minutes from where that car in the ad sits right now.

My wife and I test drove Volare wagons not long after we got married. We were into camping. One had the 318 and wood grain. The other was the slant six stripper version. I really liked the V8 one. Alas, we passed.

We also test drove the first Honda Civic wagon and a Pinto wagon.

My parents bought ours new (Special Edition, blue with wood grain), I acquired it in 1990, it left our home in 1993 after my sister's wreck. There was one rust hole on the driver's side rear wheel well, prior to my sister's remodeling job. Car survived NOVA winters and several years in CO before moving back to Va and then to NC. We never had a minivan, just the Aspen wagon. I'd love to find another, a 400 is a bit much but a 360 would be nice.

I had an aspen for a couple months before trading for a 79 Lebaron which was really a two door diplomat. It was great for one tire burnies after we swapped a Interceptor 318 in it. I don't think I've seen an aspen in four or five years.

Someone in the Gainesville/Lake City area had a silver over maroon Aspen wagon for sale about 1-2 months ago. Had a 318 with automatic transmission and A/C. Seller was asking $2800. Not sure if it's still available, tho.

I like that! A little bit too new for what it is, but the price is right!

Dad took all of us to the Dodge dealer in '79 to look at an Aspen wagon. It was time to replace the '73 LeSabre which had begun to periodically strand my mother, who was not amused. The Aspen was white with tan interior and the back seat was waaaay more comfortable than anything else we test drove. I guess the front was too, but mom and dad weren't saying.

These were dark days for Chrysler Corp and they were desperate to sell a car but dad got ahold of Consumer Reports (as Engineers are given to do) and found the Aspen/Volare had just all black bubbles. As if to illustrate the point, we kids found that our test-drive drive car wore Aspen badges on one side and Volare on the other. Sufficiently creeped out by CR drubbing, dad decided the brown/tan Buick Century wagon was the better choice, even if the back seat was far less cushy.

Years & years ago, my Dad flipped a few Aspens & Volares. IIRC they all had surprisingly much rust considering their age & that they were southern cars.

Still an interesting find. Thanks for posting.

I've heard you can squeeze some serious cubes out of a Mopar 400.
