This belongs to a customer of mine. I asked about it and she said it’s for sale asking $2000. She says the gas gauge and odometer are inop but runs and drives. Contact me and I can give you her number.

I've worked on a number of SLs over the years, and never saw one rust in the driver's fender like that. Otherwise looks solid in where you can see in the usual rust areas. Not a bad entry price if it runs and drives. Still, price accordingly for MB parts, even aftermarket. Could be a decent ride if someone didn't go all overboard in redoing it.
I just want to take a paint scraper and scrape off those rust bubbles.
Like popping shipping package bubbles - I can't help myself.
Can you get some more picts, interior, underhood, etc.? Also can you look under the car and see what the underbody looks like?
Sorry guys, I went this evening and did a zoom meeting but totally forgot to take detailed pictures. Here's my report:
Front of drivers fender and lower valence show significant rust either inside or out.
Engine starts easy, slight lifter tick both sides.
AC inop
Odometer 159k and owner says add 2k for inop
Fuel gauge inop
No obvious leaks and oil is clean with no grittiness.
Nickel/quarter size rust bubbles in a spot each trunk and top of passenger rocker.
Drivers carpet missing. White chalking or maybe fiberglass in the footwell. Looking underneath in that area I only see factory undercoating.
Under the car all pans and rockers look and feel solid. Battery tray rear drain tube moves, might be because of rust around it but cleaner than I expected.
Baseball sized but not deep dent in hood. Looks like paintless dent removal might work on it.
Ding on drivers door. Large BB in size but surface rust.
Owner says soft top was replaced and rarely used afterwards.
Owner hasn't found title yet. It is an OR title in her maiden name. Says worse case she gets a replacement title.

Not understanding what you see. Maybe circle it?
I keep thinking about this car. Needs more slam.

You're the resident Mercedes guy with style. What can be done with the 380 bumpers? Tucked? Deleted? Deleted and just a simple tube put in place?

Get some r107 euro bumpers or delete the US bumpers and make your own chrome euro bumpers.
Are there no other rust free running r107's in that price range in FL? LoL I feel like they're too common to settle for one that rusty.

Nothing, never seen one that looks good modified. Even Withers car which is done right doesn't LOOK quite right.
At that mileage, you're definitely looking at doing the chain and guides if there's no history of them being done. Being an '82, it's also likely a single-row chain. That motor is living on borrowed time at 167K, but if oil changes have been done regularly that could be what's saved those guides from going out.
Not a hard job to do, but well worth doing unless you want to swap in an M120 V12 (as someone has done) or go domestic.
The R107 bodystyle has been around for a long time, so you could find a US-spec '73 450SL that will have the smaller bumpers before that DOT bumper law kicked in and they started getting the fat lip.
It's definitely got potential; it's aesthetic look that people either love or hate, there's no in-between.
