A good friend is selling his daily driver.
2014 Chevy Sonic RS. 1.4t with the 6 speed manual trans. Car recently had a fair bit of work done to it fixing oil and water leaks but he seems to have finally gotten them stopped. Clutch replaced about a year ago. Car has seen mostly highway miles in the time he's owned the car.
Located in Bowling Green, Ky.
1. Clean.
2. Good, well lit pictures. None are upside down.
3. Looks like a nice car.
4. I can tell my friends I'm heading down to Bowling Green to pickup my new Chevy.
I'm a little confused. I've driven a standard CVT Sonic and other than breaking it I hated every minute. Is this like a cool performance version?
In reply to Stampie (FS) :
It has a manual trans, makes turbo noises, and has rear disc brakes. I'm not overly informed on what else makes this special because I know the turbo engine is still tuned for 87 octane and makes roughly the same power as the base 1.8 (plus a bit of torque). People also seem to race these in B Spec and they get autocrossed too.
My best understanding is that this was GM's really halfassed answer to the FiST.

For some reason I want one in my life now.

LOL only GM would put drum brakes on a subcompact in 2014.
Having said that, for challenge money this would be really fun. For real money, barf...
In reply to Dave M (Forum Supporter) :
LOL why does it matter when it's on the end of the car that does 20% of the work and has been tooled up for decades therefore keeping the price down on what is clearly intended to be a low-price car?
Most Sonics probably never get driven hard enough for anybody to care about rear drums. The one in question in this thread does have discs though.
Had an automatic RS as a rental car once, and other versions multiple times. Not exactly a hot rod, but made for a pleasant enough commuter for a few days. The 1.4t and 1.8 are worlds apart in feel, even if they are rated at the same HP.
A tune really wakes these up. I believe the RS versions had a better suspension that was tuned by an autox champ

Me too. I honestly kind of want this one, but my brain won't let me spend 4500$ on a Korean hatchback with 150k on it. That math doesn't work somehow. I'm sure the pricing is fine just ....
Just a point of clarification, the Sonic has never offered a CVT trans. Always a 6 speed auto trans for both the 1.8L NA engine and 1.4L turbo engine. Of course, in this case CVT could be being used as a derogatory term to denote "a transmission I did not like" but having had a 1.8L auto for a brief time, to me, the trans operated "as to be expected" meaning fine, adequate and normal.
In reply to John Welsh (Moderate Supporter) :
I swore that what I drove had a CVT that made life horrible so I checked and my niece informed me that she has a 2015 Chevy Spark. So yeah CVT just not a Sonic.
In reply to Stampie (FS) :
Oh, I'll agree that the Spark is all the suckage that only a Daewoo affiliation can bring. Though the Sonic too has some Korean roots, it was final assembled in Wixom, MI and is generally and American car (for all the good and bad that might bring.)
Personally, I never saw the need for both the Cobalt/Cruise and the Sonic at the same time. To me, the Sonic is generally a better choice.

Yeah. 80 hp vs. 138 hp. It's a bit of a swing. (They do look quite similar, though).
This is a good price if you want a commuter, and these things are great reliable commuters.
Plus if you miss this one, I'll be selling mine in a couple of weeks. But since it's not an RS, it has....GASP....drum brakes in the back.
