I've always thought a Checker would be an ideal EV conversion candidate. None of them were built with any sort of rhyme or reason for what power train they used so no concern about originality. I bet if you used a powered rear axle there would be plennnnty of room under the floor and in the engine bay for batteries. And the smooth power delivery of an ev is appropriate for a Checker where driving excitement is not typically on the menu anyway. 
 

I'd want to start with something in better condition though. Abandoned seeming cars in MA tend not to be too nice underneath.
