Man, is any part of that rust pile salvageable?

The only thing missing from that ad is "bring your own wheels and tires".

In reply to KyAllroad :

Honestly looks better than a lot I've seen. I'm sure someone will put the effort in, though maybe not at the current asking price.

I looked at every picture trying to find good parts that would make it a good organ donor. Besides trim and grill not much to justify that kind of money.

Hate to be the contrarian here, but here goes:

I owned two RX2s in the 70s. Drag raced the second one. Like taking candy from a baby, as the NHRA hadn't yet figured out that these weren't really weren't 1100 cc cars. Eventually they added a displacement multiplier. Consistently ran 1-2 seconds faster that the supposedly stock VW 1200 Beetles in the Stock class. They had cheating motors, and it drove them crazy that I was running well ahead of them (in the high 14s).

Early RX2s are the Holy Grail for the Japanese collectors. They are very desirable, and almost impossible to find, even in the dry Southwest. Even the ones I had that were only 5-10 years old had significant rust. Is this one in tough shape? Sure. Is it salvageable with a lot of work? Yes. Rust free RX2 rollers in primer usually run 10-15K, so this one will get saved. 74s had the big bumpers, so the next owner would probably ditch them anyway. Missing motor/tranny not a problem, as the preferred restomods are running 13Bs.

The key photo is the one showing the front unibody frame rail. Maybe dumb luck, but I suspect the seller knows something about these cars because of this angle. This is the money shot. Looks intact, so this one can be salvaged. Still, should be reinforced when a rotisserie restoration is done, as are prone to cracking, even when new.

Needs a lots of work, but given the high desirability, it should be gone in 2-4 weeks. Since you can't find even a roller under 10K, it will get close to his asking price. If I had space, I'd buy it tomorrow at this price, as I have seen so few of these (only one every six months or so). I've seen much worse ones go for 2X the asking price.

The 2000GT, 240Z, Hakosuka, even the 1st gen Celica would all like a word.....

True, all very desirable. But more available. Just search FB Marketplace, and see how many 240Z, GTR, or 1st Gen Celicas pop up for sale. There are so many more of them out there relative to RX2s. They are like C2/C3 Corvettes relative to 1st gen Z28 Camaros. The former were saved, where the latter were abused and discarded.  Heck, there is a original RX3 on FB for sale for 55K, and it will probably end up in Japan.

The Toyota 2000GT? That's a whole different universe. My dad test drove one at the local Toyota dealer in 1969. Gorgeous car, but he passed, and bought a Ford GT40 Mk 3 instead for $8500. But that's another story...
