There would be the little problem of your feet / butt wanting to live where the engine in a Subaru would need to be.
Unless you are considering a Mid engined Corvair Truck. Then carry on.
I would try to respect the rear engine. I would probably run a Mid 90s Bravada trans with the front diff flipped in the back to keep the wheels rolling the right direction.

I really would have wanted that, back when I could still afford toys. I even have a frame waiting for a home. I did unload the Regal, but the fwd 3800 ain't hard to come by...
