I may go and look at this. I have never owned an Alfa. Any thoughts or suggestions? Does the price seem OK?

I love the look

If that car has sat for 6+ years and the sellers thinks it might need a timing belt, I would not want to start the engine. Valve salad isn't a lot of fun.

"They say" those are much better if you transplant the 3.0 engine in it.

I drove a coworkers with an upgraded 3.0 in it. He said to take it to lunch but bring him back some. Thing got wheel spin in second gear! Awesome car.

My knee jerk reaction is that the price is a little high for a pretty big question mark with the engine. Everything else about that is awesome though. I'd probably dig deep into why they parked it and why they think it needs a timing belt/tensioner.

The sound of those engines though... *chef's kiss*

The only car I still kick myself for selling was my 81, used it as my DD for 6 years or so which was not a good idea in Ohio.  Those are only getting more expensive so if you can swing it and the body is as clean as it looks go for it.

It's alfa. It's crazy weird. Rear wheel drive, rear mounted transaxle, de dion rear suspension, inboard rear brakes...

The original tensioner is hydraulically actuated, which means both that they are prone to failure, and also that there is minimal pressure on the timing belt when the car is shut off which, combined with minimal pulley wrap on one of the camshafts, means you should not park it in gear on a hill.  Just Alfa things.

They do make spring kits to upgrade the hydraulic tensioner.

I think the seller actually knows what they are talking about in this case and is exercising the right amount of caution by not starting the car without doing a belt and tensioner first, and advising the buyer of same.

*** The reason I’m reposting the car because the guy he gave me a deposit and told me to wait a month and hi never showed up***

The other guy realized it'd be much cheaper to lose the deposit than own an Alpha, lol

That car is so clean!

Parked 6+ years, 30k mile interval in the first place, tendency to shred belts due to poor design choices...seller is actually being very forthcoming IMO.

I love old Alfas but I stick with the twin cam four. The Busso V6 juice just isn't worth the squeeze to me (but I get it, god they sound amazing uncorked)

If ypu go look at it, check rockers, under the spare, behind the headlights, and ESPECIALLY the front shock tower reinforcement area! These bodies are welded together so panel repair isn't as straightforward as you'd think. Getting a 3.0 put of a late 164 is a great way to increase hp. There are a few cheap outboard rear brake mods out there. Not as reliable as a 944 but it makes the greatest noise!

Sold  · 1983 Alfa Romeo gtv6

$8,000

"Alfa built about 22,000 GTV-6s from 1981–87, and less than 5000 are thought to have come to the States. Thanks to age, neglect, and above all rust, not many are left." Quoted from Hagerty.
