These are fairly common, at least as far a old kit cars go. They're not terribly impressive up close.

It's all about the Walter Mitty aspect. You look over that long hood, crouch over the wheel and let your imagination free.
A friend from my MINI group has one. He enjoys it as a fun little run-about. It's different than the other cars in his collection (classic Mini, R53 GP, Audi TT, 135is). Another guy in our group is well-versed in A-C VWs, so he doesn't have to fiddle with it much.
