I have no idea if this is the right section, but here goes:

My five year old saves money and buys things. He earns his money from cleaning the house. The last thing he bought was a cool radio controlled helicopter, and for $20, it's really pretty awesome.

He wants a car now, and for the life of me I can't come up with a similar priced car worth having him save for. Most of the stuff in that price range is garbage.

Does anyone have a Tamiya or T/A, HPI, losi, Traxxas anything sitting around from their youth that I could buy? I'd much rather him have an old Stampede or Lunch Box than a Chinabay R/C car that won't go on the grass and uses 2 C batteries or some such nonsense.

Let me know

Thanks

I have a Tamiya King Cab that's been sitting for years. It'll be a project, are you looking for a project truck?

It depends. Probably. Pm me with details and a pic or two (for the kid) if you can. Thanks

What price range are you looking at? I have an older Xray T1, it can pretty much stand up to anything a 5 year old could throw at it.

About that same $20 range. Nothing yet from the good doctor so I am still in the market

All of my google fu shows that the Xray T1 is some sort of on road belt driven car. That can't be what you mean.

Might have something for you, willing to do a little fix up/tuning etc? I'll need your addy and the weekend to dig for stuff.

Yes, I can work on R/C pretty readily. I used to have a bunch of stuff I now wish I had kept, RC10T, RC10B2, HPI Super Nitro RS4, Bolink Digger, Traxxas Sledgehammer, and a few others. Dr. Boost is in talks with me now, the main issue is figuring out how to get batteries, a charger, and a radio into a five year old's budget.

I might be as to help with the radio. Let me do some digging. I can't remember if i sold all my FM stuff or not.

Sorry, I read the "car" part and didn't see you actually wanted a truck

I want something the tunakids can bang around the yard with, truck/car/buggy whatever.

Now you have me interested in your car, but it takes longer for me to earn spending money than it does the kid!

I have an old Nicad peak charger (NOT the 15 minute timer style) that I can donate.

Also check out rctech.net, you might find some people to unload some of their older stuff pretty cheap or donate even.

I just checked, I know the radio is somewhere- but I do not have a reciever for it- so at best you'd need a new crystal set and a new reciever- well outside of the kids budget. If I find all of it, I'll let you know.

Ok, I think I've got you covered but perhaps the rest of the community can help filling some gaps.

For the tunakids I have 2 cars (one mutant Losi/Associated truck and one RC10 car)

3 bodies (2 truck, 1 car)

Electronics, one controller, one extra receiver and a HI-IQ Jr charger with 4 batteries of questionable condition

If anyone can help with the following to round out the Tunakids experience it would be good

batteries - not sure how good these are

Simple cheap charger - the HI-IQ has a bit of a learning curve might be easier for them to start with a simple charger

Motor - the motor in the truck right now is a hand wound 10 turn triple (I think I remember that right) its pretty potent and probably not the best motor for them to start with, I had a box of parts, crystals and motors but it has eluded discovery so far so if anyone has a good simple motor to start them with it would be good.

My apologies to the community for any delay this will cause in Tuna's excellent build thread on his truck :)

Jim,

You are a man amongst men! Thank you! My kids are very excited, and my wife is in awe at your generosity. Indeed, if anyone else has any of the missing parts, it would be appreciated, but I would be equally excited just picking up some odds and ends at the local hobby store. Seriously, can't thank you enough.

I have an old Tamiya factory silver can of indeterminate turnage (It was the OEM in my TB03 drifter) that's never turned a comm as far as I know. Sitting in a baggy in my lap. Yours for the asking. Gonna be slower than that rocket Jthw8's got... and probably torquier for lawn bashing... I used to use similar in my old drift setup til I got fancy and threw a brushless at it. I also have a 19t Turnigy spec motor sitting in the back of my T4 that I might be persuaded to free up if you so choose- that's probably still gonna be a pretty hot motor for a 5 year old. THEN there's the REALLY freaky stuff, but that's a whole other story...... and probably not as free.
