Those were known for having transmissions made of glass. It may not be a clutch issue, but $700 (or less) might soothe the issue.

Color me intrigued. It was a constant question back when the MINI first came out, but the consensus was the European Neon motor the MINI used was nothing like the American Neon motor and an SRT motor wouldn't fit. Well, wouldn't fit any easier than putting any other transverse 4-cylinder in one. If you know of someone who's done that swap, I'd love to get info on it.
Second DeadSkunk's statement. The early (2002 to mid 2004) MINI Cooper 5 speed had tons of issues. I have one up on blocks in my garage right now for a bad transmission. I'm watching the local pick and pulls for a later Getrag 5-speed to put in it (no luck so far).
