No title required in New York for 1972 or older vehicles. Bill of sale is all you need, then you get a transferrable registration that sort of acts as the title
Any car in Mass. that changes hands after it is 10 years old looses the title. Seriously dumb, but the other states recognize the Mass registration just like a title.
