I've enjoyed having my Volvo S70 T5M around but it's not really finding a long-term place in my heart and will probably be sold in the coming months. I'm not in a rush to buy anything but figured I'd throw a post out there in case anyone knew anyone selling some of the following:

  • Jaguar XJ8/XJR
  • Jaguar XK8 (ideally coupe, maybe 'vert)
  • BMW E34 Touring (or maybe sedan)
  • BMW E39 Touring

Open to other ideas, too. Another E36 M3 would be fun. I don't really like other Jags. Maybe a New Edge 01-04ish Mustang?

Looking to spend as close to "Challenge budget" as possible with a toy like this and understand that may not find the nicest example, but I'm fine with higher mileage and so on.

You can get into Z4s for not too much. I got a deal on mine at $2500 but it needed a few things done for $1k or less. I know nothing about Z3s but I've had my '03 Z4 for a couple years and only had to replace wearable items, and not many, at that.

How about a 2000 jaguar xk8 with 95k miles and a rebuilt title.

Its mine I have owned it for 5 years.  $2900.

I forgot you still had that.  5 years is a long time for you.

Oooh. That is tempting. The convertible top would make it easy to borrow oil paintings and toiletries from various hotels and residences along my journey back to DC.

The Z3/Z4 is a strong contender. I love convertibles and find the Z3 to be one of the most beautiful BMWs ever made. Less so on the Z4 but they may be easier to find, cheaper, and don't have issues with the trunk floors falling out.

I might be selling my '01 New Edge GT. It'll be sub-challenge budget, and it meets the high mileage qualification (307k).

I'd be interested in your S70 T5M if and when you are ready. Owned one 7 years, sold it at 270K in better shape than I bought it. Great cars if you don't ask too much in the performance department. I'm currently looking for a fun/ interesting family car myself – not to hijack your thread. Here is an XJR up in NH that looks promising.

Cool, keep an eye out for a FS ad when the time comes. Mine is a 1998, pewter on beige with nearly 296k on the odometer. I bought it from a guy who had it since it was a year old and have every service record back to the pre-delivery inspection at mile 1. Interior looks nearly new. Stock except for a strut brace and Grom Bluetooth adatper.

I have a E60 550i I'll be getting rid of in a few months.  If you keep up on maintenance they are reasonably reliable cars.  N62 is a beast of an engine despite some inherent issues.

That sounds awesome and terrifying to own. PM me?

That'd be a fun race:  550i vs. XJR.

Bumping this. The Volvo is going away in about two weeks.

I am mostly grooving on the idea of a roadster that isn't a Miata - Z3, Z4, Boxster, SLK - or fun-ish coupe. Roadsters would need to have three pedals. Budget is opened up a bit more beyond "challenge-ish" to like... $4k or so.

I think my ideal purchase would be a S52-powered Z3M roadster in not-black. But I'm open to ideas.

Why not LS power a Z3?

https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/cars-sale/challenge-priced-1998-z3-rod-knocking/176312/page1/

All the other kids would think you were so cool! I could even put eyes on it in a couple weekends

Saying I'm not a GM fan is putting it kindly.

I really don't have the space or time or interest in doing a drivetrain swap, either. I love Z3s but would really just want one with three pedals and six cylinders of German powahh.
