How do you reward a driver who jumped ship to your team after winning a Formula 1 championship? You give them a special, brand-new Ferrari F40. That’s what Alain Prost received when he joined Scuderia Ferrari after winning the 1989 F1 title.
While Prost received the car, he never used it. Instead, by using a dealership as a proxy, he sold it to another racer, Graham de Zille. Prior to de Zille taking delivery, Prost signed the roof of the car, which was then covered in a clear coat and remains visible today.
Besides the provenance, this car comes with many other perks. It was delivered with a few highly desirable specifications like no catalytic converter and a non-adjustable suspension. Motor Sport magazine featured the car in its April 1997 issue, and some countries even consider this car to still be new as it carries only 2900 miles on the odometer.
