If the chance to own a Datsun 240Z restored and upgraded by famed Nissan specialists Z-Car Garage isn’t enough to warm you up, how about this: The total sale amount from the auction of this 240Z (including the buyer’s fee) will be donated to the Piston Foundation, a nonprofit that funds programs to help young technicians start careers in the collector car industry.

Originally sold new in Southern California, the Z-car was purchased by Bring a Trailer in April 2018. Z-Car Garage–who had built and maintained the Datsun for its previous owner–upgraded the 240Z to Bring a Trailer’s “preferred spec.”

Since then, the car has been used as an event car for Bring a Trailer, where it took part in a number of rallies, road trips, displays and more.

And an update on the sale from BaT:

The final bid for the car reached $124,240. Along with the $5,000 buyer’s fee and the $6,513 raised through individual donations from BaT members, a grand total of $135,753 was earned towards the Piston Foundation’s “Sponsor a Piston Scholar” initiative.

The funds are enough to create scholarships for 27 aspiring technicians, granting them the opportunity to pursue a skilled trades education. The Foundation’s goal for 2023 is to offer 50 scholarships. Piston awarded 10 scholarships in 2022, the inaugural year of the initiative.
