Before his induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011, David Pearson drove this very Ford Torino in the 1968 NASCAR Championship season.

Built and campaigned by Holman-Moody, The Torino would go on to achieve 12 pole position qualifications and 16 event wins with Pearson behind the wheel.

According to the seller, once the season ended, the car was sold (much to Pearson’s surprise) to Wendell Scott for $1.

Find this 1968 Ford Torino NASCAR available from Canepa, price available upon application.

I'd like to know more about the car's history with Wendell...

I second that. The 1969 season was the one where Wendell won his most money for a season. He used his own Ford for every race he competed in except for three. It's tough to say if that was with Pearson's Ford or another without seeing the records for this specific car. Let's see if we can do some digging to satisfy our curiosity.

I was hoping the listing would have more information, but this is all the information offered:

Once the 1968 season ended, the Torino was retired as new cars would be built for the 1969 season. David Pearson was expecting Holman-Moody to offer him the car to buy to keep since it was one of the 1968 championship-season cars, but Ford Motor Company had other plans. Wendell Scott, one of the first African-American drivers in NASCAR and the first African-American to win a race in the Grand National Series, was given the opportunity to buy the Torino per the instructions from Ford to Holman-Moody. To add insult, Holman-Moody sold it to Scott for One Dollar! David wouldn’t be reunited with his championship-year car until more than three decades later.

I'm hoping to find some time today to do a little more digging because, yes, it would be interesting to learn more about Wendell's history with the car.
