Although the Ford Contour is likely one of last cars to come to mind when looking for a sports sedan, that didn’t stop the folks at SVT from giving it a shot of adrenaline.

This Ford Contour SVT, reported to be No. 762 of 2760 examples produced for 1999, comes powered by a 2.5-liter Duratec V6–good for 195 horsepower–and mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

The Ford is said to be mostly stock, though features an aftermarket steering wheel wrap and window tint, plus a muffler delete. As well, the car currently shows 88,300 miles.

I owned a '95 Contour -- actually its Mercury clone, the Mystique -- for about 18 months.  Not an SVT, but had the V6, the 5-speed, and a reasonably tight suspension.  Lots of fun to drive, and enough room to put passengers in the back without them getting intimate.  That is, lots of fun to drive when it wasn't broken.  This was the stereotypical built-on-a-Friday-afternoon car...over those 18 months, between recalls and stupid s**t like the speedometer cable breaking, it was back to the Ford dealer seven times.  Finally threw in the towel when the gas tank started leaking because the unfinished filler tube wore a hole through it...whether poor design or poor assembly I never learned, but the dealer didn't want to hear another warranty claim from me, so I had someone else fix it and sold the beast before it broke again.  Too bad.
