I thoght I wasn't going to like it then I took a look at it.
It's pretty neat. I would try and put in a different engine. Alfa v6? BMW straight 6 with ITB?

Engine tag looks like '65 283 Chevy to me. I see an auto trans dipstick so I wouldn't be surprised at all if there's a powerglide behind the engine.
